Reds start May at 12 wins and 16 losses. Compared to the awful April of last season, being within reach of playing .500 is a huge improvement.
So on to May. The Reds are playing good ball at home and in series play are 2 wins, 1 loss, 2 ties in Cincinnati. Maybe in May more fans show up at games from now to Memorial Day Weekend and this franchise can bring in some much needed money for 2024.
So go Reds and win some games in May. They are playing better than last season so far.

I'm looking ahead to Reds in Cincinnati in May. This weekend the Chicago White Sox come in. Also in May are The New York Mets, The New York Yankees and The St Louis Cardinals. Reds in home series play are 2 wins, 1 loss, 2 ties so far.
The St Louis Cardinals are close to Memorial Day. Reds spend Memorial Day weekend at Chicago Cubs, Reds spend Fathers Day on the road. Reds spend 4th of July on the road. MLB did Reds no favors on the schedule for Holiday Fans. With one exception. The weekend before 4th of July has The San Diego Padres in Cincinnati around July 1st, and anymore many celebrate The 4th on the weekend before. So that Friday, Saturday and Sunday should be a 4th of July crowd off work for the weekend and very 4th of July Baseball.
A look ahead shows June starts with a Joey Votto bobblehead game. The question is will the Reds highest paid player be back, or will he still have not played any of this season. It would be odd if the only Joey Votto of the season at that point would be his bobble head and not Joey Votto himself.
Look for fans to travel. Chicago Fans show up in Cincy. I expect New York fans to show up in Cincy. St Louis fans always show up in Cincy. Reds should sell plenty of tickets, even if a good part of the crowd at GABP in May are Chicago, New York and St Louis Fans making the trip to Ohio to see their teams. They may even find it easier to get a good seat at GABP than Yankee Stadium. Reds should sell plenty of tickets in May to GABP full of home fans and many fans of the visiting teams. Good, The Reds Owners could use the boost in attendance to attain money for 2024 team.

Well there goes trying to get a west coast series win. Cessa pitching today. I wonder how long they'll keep running him out there? There has to be someone better. Cessa's ERA is 9.55, in 22 innings he's gave up 39 hits! Opposing teams are batting .398 against him.

Cessa's pitching? Better make it a rest day for the team veterans..
Volson is meh, but I like him, and he has far exceeded my expectations

Well as expected Cessa got chased in 3 innings. I just can't help but wonder if there isn't a better option, somewhere?? And the good news is we have the White Sox next, 10 wins, they ain't all that.
Perhaps H. Greene can get the no wins monkey off his back tomorrow?

Crap. Just found out Friday's game is on Apple TV. Can't stand the hangs and poor streaming. Guess I'll have to make other plans.

OK, Back Home. Reds are 2 wins, 1 loss, 2 ties in series play at GABP. Why is this important ? Reds owners took a financial beating in no fans in stands in 2020 and no Minor League fans either, and in 2022 worst attendance since early 1980's when Reds lost 100 games. So Reds need Home Wins to bring fans back to the games with their money.
Chicago White Sox and Chicago fans often make the weekend trip to Cincinnati. Good, their money can go into the Reds bank account also.
Win the series
Reds have NY Mets and New York Yankees and St Louis Cardinals in GABP in May, so Reds Owners should make needed money, because Chicago, New York and St Louis Fans will travel to Cincinnati in large numbers, because it's easier to get tickets here than in the filled up stadiums of these over populated super cities. Welcome the visiting fans, because Reds Owners need fanny's in the seats to make some Money for a team in 2024.
Reds Home Wins Needed, but also Filled Stands, even if filled by visiting fans from these big cities here to get better seats than they can get at home.

Lodolo chased in the 4th. He started out this season looking pretty good. He was giving up a bit to many hits but being able to overcome it.
Like last 4 starts he's dropped off bad! I was hoping between Greene, Lodolo, and Ashcraft we'd get a bit of wins out of em. Doesn't seem like it's gonna be that way.

Reds have chance to WIN series today Sunday against Chicago White Sox in Cincinnati. Ashcraft on mound gives Reds a chance.
IF Reds win today, they will be 3 Wins, 1 Loss and 2 Ties in Series Play at home in Cincinnati. That would be huge, winning at home in Cincinnati to help bring in fans this season. Reds may not be a good road team in 2023, but they could be a good home team.

At least the Cards are in last place! If they finish the season in last that's a world series win for the entire league in my book.. lol

Reds are only 5.5 games out of 1st place thanks in part to the Pirates and Brewers both on current 6 game losing streaks.

Friedl is showing some promise batting .324, he's going to rewrite the record books. That's like .150 above a "decent player". But man, Stephenson just doesn't look right at the plate. He's swinging at stuff waayyy out of the strike zone and not taking bat off shoulder for pitches right down the middle.
And now Ashcraft is getting rocked, oh boy.

11 runs given up in the 2nd inning. Most in one inning since 2003.

Yea....Ashcraft looked unhittable all season to this point. Apparently, he was due for a horrific start haha.

Reds Lose
So Reds are 2 wins, 2 losses, 2 ties at home in series play.
Greene, Lodolo and Ashcraft are still having the growing pains of being up from the Minors last year, and then all 3 missed playing time due to injuries last year, so not a full rookie year for any of the three. It's still early with all 3 in their careers. Hey, even veterans like Kershaw and Cole got lit up this weekend.

Yeah, Friedl is quietly looking like a very solid CF option for the next couple years.

He seems to do the right thing in just about every situation. He also works his ass off.
Many believe that the outfield is going to be the dump for the overflow talent that will eventually come from the minors. Friedl might just hold one of those spots down and create a real infield glut.
