Welcome to the Jungle Jordan Battle
#81
I like Battle, he had a rough two years though but I put that 100% on our d coord Pete Goulding. He was awful.
Battle will be good here.
It’s a depth pick for now though, I would like to see a little urgency drafting, guys that are going to step right in, as we are right in the thick of Super Bowl contention.

You're preaching to the choir on that point, brother.  I threw a 6 year old's style tantrum when they allowed both Bates and Bell to walk.  Other fans told me to just wait and see what they do about it.  Reminded me that we took Dax in the 1st and Tyson in the 5th last year.  The team went on to sign Scott, and now draft Battle.  Seems to me that Safety still is the priority position in Lou's defense, just needed to get younger and cheaper to accommodate nearing offensive expenditures.

I'm sure that the secondary will have some growing pains early in the season, but under Anarumo I feel like they'll look like they've been there before come the back half of the season.

Volson is meh, but I like him, and he has far exceeded my expectations

They drafted Battle because he was at the top of their board

THIS.

We’re new at this, though, lol. Gotta get our minds right.

I think they went board in the 1st.... Everything elese seems to too conveniently hit veterans at end of contract positions.

He did a lot of taunting in his highlights, so he is the heir apparent as our taunter in chief.

It was a joke.

Finally getting around to watching Alabama replays and keying in on Jordan Battle.

I cannot help but think he’s gonna be the starter at some point THIS SEASON.

Lou’s scheme is basically keep everything in front, and gang tackle.

Jordan Battle EXCELS at this.

Nick Scott has a real battle on his hands for that starter job.

I agree yet Lou hates to play rookies. Battle should be as ready as any rookie safety in recent memory for any team. He learned from Saban ( who spends tons of times with the secondary) and started a crap ton of games in a tough conference. Competition is a good thing.
Romo “ so impressed with Zac ...1 of the best in the NFL… they are just fundamentally sound. Taylor the best winning % in the Playoffs of current coaches. Joe Burrow” Zac is the best head coach in the NFL & that gives me a lot of confidence." Taylor led the Bengals to their first playoff win since 1990, ending the longest active drought in the four major North American sports, en and appeared in Super Bowl LVI, the first since 1988.

While I would agree, I wouldn’t call anyone in our S Group battle tested (really, honestly, no pun intended… just couldn’t think of another way to say it).

It’s the one position group on the team where we will have some raw players playing a majority of snaps.

Jordan Battle is Darrin Simmons guy. A Steeler friend of mine invoked a name that I think will fit Battle's career.... Vincent Rey. Some fans might not like that but Vinny Rey was a cornerstone special teams player and a solid starting LB when he had to play... First and foremost he was a leader and he is still with the team as the Chaplin. I have much respect for Vinny Rey.

Side Note: I nick named one of my nieces Vinny Rey because her name is Vanessa Renae. Her mother wasn't thrilled lol.

But with huge upside in Dax Hill, Brick Scott, Tycen Anderson and Jordan Battle.

Both Dax and Brick are faster than Bates and Bell together. We just have to hope their instincts come around soon and they can diagnose
quickly and not get burnt deep. I trust in Lou to get the most out of them, but early in the season I expect some struggles, nothing we can
not over come though. Both Bates and Bell had their struggles early last season and Bates was bad in the Playoffs especially against KC.

Vinny was a small, fast Linebacker. Don't really see the comparison with a bigger, slower Safety in Jordan Battle who relies on his
instincts and football smarts, even if Vinny was smart and still is. I don't get the comparison.

Don't blame Vanessa Renae's mother lol

He was considered small when he came out but now Vinny Rey would be a larger LB with Ok speed. He was about the same size as Logan Wilson at 6'2 240 and ran a 4.58 close to Pratt's time. The NFL linebacker changed pretty quickly they are all like 6'0 230lbs now probabaly has something to do with all the wide zone teams were running the last 6 or 7 years.

I wasnt considering their skillsets just their careers. Vinny was an excellent backup and one of the best special teams players in the NFL. He was the Special Teams Captian and a team leader which are the qualities that Darrin Simmons who specifically asked for Battle noted when talking about him.

True about how Linebackers have gotten smaller over the years and needing to be much faster.

I guess I understand your comparison a bit more after this. No doubt Vinny Rey was one of the best ST's players Simmons ever had.

Both Lou and Simmons have been gushing over Battle, we will see if he can be near as good of a ST'er as Vinny was or push for the
starting spot beside Dax this year over Nick Scott. When I watch Battle's highlights I am really impressed, he is always around the ball.

Darnell Washington is going to look like Kyle Pitts in year 2 - too slow to play slot and wideout to take advantage of his size. Hockenson is popular because he can still block but slip in and out of zone - not saying he won't have a bunch of career highlight catches but not something that this offense needs.

I've caught these games too.

Unfortunately, I can't say the same about Myles Murphy. The Clemson games that have been on he has been a dud. Even the announcers acknowledged he's been a disappointment for Clemson coaches and has motivation issues. I watched 3 Clemson games.

On another note I caught a Miami game and DJ Ivey looked good.

They didn't take a player in the 3rd because they though his ceiling was good special teams player. Simmons can ask for him but someone else had to sign off on him having starting potential to go there. To get elite specialists that early it takes a lot, to get a guy who is just covering kicks in a part of the game being phased out it may have had some sway but that was not the reason they took him.

His tape two years ago was better than last year (Murphy) they are betting on last year being the aberration. We will see. He didn't ascend like many had expected but I have his comp as Danielle Hunter. I think he could be a similar player in the NFL, his college production just didn't match his physical ability.
