VERY up and down. He actually had some nice plus plays where he got yards. BUT, he was a disaster as a blocker. He actually caused two pressures and indirectly the INT by running into the back of the LT on two plays, knocking the LT out of their pass set and messing it all up.

It is was it is. Kid is a Day 3 pick. It wouldn't be a big deal if we weren't counting on one of our three Day 3 RB's stepping up in a big way and playing significant snaps in the offense. I think we probably need to look and see what's left in FA and/or who shakes loose in final cuts.

I agree with this. Brown is a good story, but outside of specialists, you don't really count on 5th round rookies contributing much.

Well the good news is hes got 3 weeks to figure it out before week 1 and after that more weeks watching the vets run the offense. If he can be an off the bench contributor by mid-season that would be great. I love how hard he runs.

On the one hand he was advertised as "inconsistent" and not just because of a fumbling issue. However I actually have liked what I've seen. You need a guy who is at least a threat to go off so that the safeties will play up towards the line and he is that. If he can be an explosive runner, even just sometimes, then maybe we can find someone else who can pass block on 3rd downs. And after next year when Joe Mixon's contract expires Chase could be the starting RB.

He is young and with so much spread in college blocking at nfl level is normally a weakness. Not like he is a 2nd round pick to replace Mixon. After two games I do give Evans the edge over Brown for 3rd RB.

Good news is I’ve heard (haven’t been able to watch much) that Chris Evans has picked up pass protection much better this year.

Who knows who will replace Mixon, Williams Brown Evans were day 3 guys for reasons. At this put Williams seems a lock to make roster when healthy and after two games I give Evans edge over Brown for 3rd spot. Evans has shown more versatility so far especially with blocking kick off returns added in.

it seems every thing seems to be aligning with Evans in this crucial camp, he has improved his blocking and looks better running the ball and has continued being solid out of backfield, the kickoff return last nite just added to a good camp, unless a terrible 3rd preseason camp by him and a great one by brown, im thinking bengals will keep him as their 3rd back and take on passing downs role like Perrine did.

Kind of hard to tell really, He had nowhere to run, just like Mixon trying to run thru his own blocked O'line. And he is small too only 5'9 at about 209. I've always thought smaller backs would have trouble blocking these 6'3 240 or more LB's.
They are gonna miss Perine I feel, he was solid as can be with or without the ball.

OLine is absolutely terrible on the 2nd unit... the fact that Chris Evans is having success is a miracle in its self. He deserves the RB2 as of now.
That said I haven't been impressed with Brown either and I'm honestly not convinced he crossed the goal line last night either lol. Maybe he picks it up by mid-season or proves he deserves a starting spot the following but he needs work.

I just put up the note on Brown to show both that he has potential and that there are major areas to work on. He actually made the line look worse than it was by stuff like running into the back of the LT, knocking the LT (Carman once, Smith once) out of their blocking stance and disrupting the entire play.

Too bad we never got a chance to see Williams. Maybe he’ll see snaps next week and we’ll know all of our options. I wanted to see some of the undrafted free agent rbs too but looks like they are hiding them.

Williams is RB2 when healthy.
Evans & Brown are fighting for RB3. And to make us keep 4 RBs.
Evans had a nice KR last night.

That's the truth.
I wouldn't worry about the run game too much until the season starts and we see what the #1s can do.

Right now, i think Evans has the edge and it will be interesting to see what they do with Brown. If they go with Brown, it's going to be on potential alone.
