Alright, we are 2l15 minutes away from the announcement of the initial 53. Which may not be the 53 we start with, as we picked up 3 on the waiver wire last year. But I think it is a good place to start a new roster thread for the season. This isn't camp. It isn't free agency. It is go time, baby!
With the news earlier that Chrisman was cut, I think the 25 starters are set.
I. Starters = 25
A. Offense = 11
1. QB: Burrow
2. RB: Mixon
3. WR1: Chase
4. WR2: Higgins
5. WR3/Slot: Boyd
6. TE: I. Smith, Jr.
7. LT: O. Brown Jr.
8. LG: Volson
9. C: Karras
10. RG: Cappa
11. RT: J. Williams
B. Defense = 11
1. RDE: Hendrickson
2. NT/DT: Reader
3. DT: BJ Hill
4. LDE: Hubbard
5. LB: Wilson
6. LB: Pratt
7. CB1: Awuzie
8. CB2: Taylor-Britt
9..CB3/Slot: Hilton
10. SS: Scott
11. FS: D. Hill
C. Specialists = 3
1. PK: McPherson
2. P: Robbins
3. LS: Adomitis
----------------------
II. Reserves = 28
A. Offense = 14
1. QB2: Browning
2. RB2: C. Brown
3. RB3: T. Williams (KR1)
4. RB4: Evans (KR2)
5. WR4: Irwin
6. WR5: Iosivas
7. WR6/Slot2: C. Jones (PR1)
8. TE2: D. Sample
9. TE3: Wilcox
10. OT3: Carman (LT)
11. OT4: D. Smith (RT/LT)
12. G3/C3: Scharping
13. G4/OT5: Ford
14. C2/G5: T. Hill
B. Defense = 14
1. DE3: Ossai
2. DE4: C. Sample
3. DE5: Murphy
4. NT2: Tupou
5. DT3: Carter
6. NT3/DT4: Tufele
7. LB3: Davis- Gaither
8. LB4: Bailey
9. LB5: Bachie
10. CB4: Turner
11. CB5: Ivey
12. CB6/Slot2: J. Davis
13. S3: Battle
14. S4: Anderson
My only real gripes are taking 10 OL, with Ford and Hill making it. I'd have also taken Adeniji over Smith, but no biggie there. I certainly would have gone light at OL and kept Johnson III or D. Davis. Hudson over Wilcox at TE3. But I get Wilcox as the better ST guy. At least we did not waste a spot on Morgan, but he gives you more than Ford or Trey Hill, IMHO.

Yeah, Ford making it is a bit of a surprise to me. Might of been our worst OL this PS besides 1 good run block
against the Packers. Scharping making it is no surprise since he can play Center now. Trey Hill had some good
snaps in the first 2 games but didn't look as good against the Commanders IMO.
Hope La'el Collins can get healthy after the first 4 games and come back in case Jonah gets banged up like he
always does. Happy we finally cut Asiasi who never impressed me, but I was kind of hoping Hudson would make
it but I understand how we don't value TE's as much as other teams.
I do feel better about Safety with how Dax and Tycen specifically played this PS. Interested in seeing how Nick
Scott plays this season and if he can hold onto the starting spot opposite of Dax.

A couple of surprises. Looks to be a great squad on paper. I still wonder about TE. I am a big Wilcox fan and I hope he can step up when needed like last year. What was his injury?

Keeping Ford is the only surprise to me, I guess he looked better during practice.
It's easy to see the world in black and white. Grey? I don't know what to do with grey.

I think the Smith injury may have saved him a spot. Not sure how many details the Bengals have about the injury and how much time he may need to miss. You have to think he'll be the first one gone when Collins comes back.

Ford I believe is the most versatile backup from what has been reported which is what you want as 10th lineman but I don't believe we are set , OL is where we might pick up one off cuts

Might have to make a trade to get a good player like Ben Cleveland as we are so low on the waiver wire.

I agree on Ford but if it were me I’d keep Hill until Collins comes back and gives Scharping more time to be a center. With Irv Smith’s injury history Hudson is insurance I’d have kept 4 TE’s.
Romo “ so impressed with Zac ...1 of the best in the NFL… they are just fundamentally sound. Taylor the best winning % in the Playoffs of current coaches. Joe Burrow” Zac is the best head coach in the NFL & that gives me a lot of confidence." Taylor led the Bengals to their first playoff win since 1990, ending the longest active drought in the four major North American sports, en and appeared in Super Bowl LVI, the first since 1988.

Is he really that versatile if he is bad at every position he plays? Last year Ford played 350 snaps. His PFF grade was 41.2. In 2021 he played 485 snaps, his PFF grade was 46.7. This preseason Ford played 63 snaps and had a 36.4 PFF. He is just not a good football player.

Minor point, but I have a feeling Tycen will be S3 over Battle at least for a little while.

Im a bit surprised we kept 4 RBs. I would rather have kept 4 TEs

Also, I expect Stanley Morgan to be brought back as a vested veteran. Someone else drops, and my first guess is Trey Hill.

Except the position is more injury prone than TE.

Unless one of your TE's is Irv Smith.

And lmao I said that on another thread. I’d kept 4 TE (because of Smith and Hudson more like him) and 4 RB. Keeping Cody Ford I sure don’t get.

I feel good about the Bengals wide receiver depth should there be some short-term injuries to our starting WRs as happened to all three last year.

I may be completely wrong, but this tells me they are looking to make a/some waiver claims.
You don't want to cut someone you want on the team just in case, so you have all these guys and if you hit on a claim, you can cut bait.
