Looks like we picked up RB Demetric Felton from the Browns. Anyone know anything about him?

Just quoting from what I found on a Browns source (don't shoot me):

Felton was drafted by the team in the sixth round in the 2021 draft. Lauded for his versatility by the team, the running back was primarily used as a wide receiver early in his career. The Browns sought to get the ball in the hands of the shifty talent, using him as a return specialist, where he received All-Rookie Team honors from the PFWA. Felton would become a jack of all trades, master of none, making this roster move unsurprising.

Felton Jr. has an uncanny ability to make would-be tacklers miss in close quarters. However, his size and lack of top-end speed have so far limited his role. I could see the Browns being interested in him returning to the team’s practice squad. He can become an NFL contributor if he can learn to master a position.

If this is the Felton from UCLA, he is one hell of dynamic RB and this is a fantastic pickup.

They do have a great OL, but if this is the guy I think it is I wanted us to draft him in the mid rounds.

Good question that you raised elsewhere: can he pass protect?

That is the question, I think I remember he was decent at it at UCLA but could be wrong and I don't know how he has developed in the NFL.

He can run. He can catch. He can't pass protect

Quote:Demetric Felton finally got the opportunity to show what he could do when used as a running back. The results were mostly positive. Felton demonstrated the ability to be successful running the ball out of the shotgun, as well as the skills to excel as a passing down back.

But in the end, Felton’s inability to improve in his pass protection cost him a chance to land on the roster. If he were to clear waivers, which is not a given, Felton is a perfect candidate for the practice squad. It would give Felton additional time to work on the craft of being an all-around running back and give the Browns a backup in the kick return game.

Sounds like the team took on another project guy with nice potential upside. We already have our punt returner but it never hurts to have a backup, if he can sort out his muffing issues. The downside seems to be his pass blocking as noted above...so I don't except him to be in the game at RB anytime soon.

Curious was he our pick over Saylors for the PS or did Saylors make the PS and I missed it?

Felton has to pass his physical first, but yeah, I think he would take Saylors spot on the PS if he does.

Good player at RB to develop, Felton is dynamic as a runner and a receiver out of the backfield. If he can get decent in pass pro
and clean up the muffed Punt Returns we could have a special player here.

He was impressive at UCLA...but I cant help wonder if there is more to it as they play Browns opening day?

Yes just the PS for now. Could very well have something to do with what kalibengal just brought up. Didn't think about that aspect

That was part of my thinking. I wouldn't be surprised if this was more of scouting signing and he could be waived down the road to open up a PS spot.
