Considering some of the really egregious hits that get small fines, this amount for a called-up practice squad player seems crazy

$43k is more than a gamecheck for a league minimum player ($41,667).
Practice squad league minimum (2 or less accrued years of NFL experience) is $12,000/week and practice squad veteran league minimum is $16,100/week. ____________________________________________________________

One could almost think the NFL is already punishing the Bengals for ruining their New Year’s eve marquee matchup of Mahomes vs Burrow.

Good, that'll teach him to tackle inbounds next time.

so he gets fined more than twice someone did with a blow to the head and more than CHido for ripping someone's helmet off

OP’s point is the amount of the fine is excessive in comparison to others. It was the second highest fine of the week. Hopefully reduced on appeal.

That’s insane.

After further research, it turns out fine amounts are predefined in the CBA. Something the NFLPA needs to work on.

As far as I can tell 2019- 15 yards facemask 2021-15 yards unsportsmanlike conduct 2023- 10 yards-block in the back 15 yards-unnecessary roughness Where is the 2nd offense for the hit? That is unbelievably harsh. Hope the Bengals pass the hat around to pay the fine. Worst case, maybe Chad'll step up for his brother.

makes you wonder how they will fine this play. Same player committed a horse collar and a facemask on the same play

So, if he appeals should be reduced to first offense $21,855 or possibly a maximum of 10% of his game check. Why would the NFL make such an egregious error? Answer = it’s the Bengals, so he must have done this before.

"Let's do Morgan a solid bring him up to earn a game check".
OK, that didn't work out. He paid $2K to play

When he appeals he will probably get the fine reduced because of his low salary. The CBA contains this language:
https://overthecap.com/collective-bargaining-agreement/article/46 Quote:On appeal, a player may assert, among other defenses, that any fine should be reduced because it is excessive when compared to the player’s expected earnings for the season in question. ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ

Might be the first time I’ve ever felt bad for a professional athlete when it comes to finances. He doesn’t make that much. Cutting a check for $43k is gonna hurt. Would be cool to see some teammates pitch in $5k each to lessen the blow. If he wasn’t a PS call up, I would never say that. But when he’s not making much, at all, $43k is a lot.
