2024 Bengals Free Agency/Roster Thread
DJ jogging on a treadmill about 10 weeks out from surgery is probabaly amazing news. He was running in a wave pool last week. Looks like he could be ready for September.

Yes, I am seeing that everywhere now. Miami signed a TE (Smith) for two years, after he was released by Atlanta. Patriots sign the OT Okorofor.  Both might have fit Bengals needs. And it does mean that there are a number of free agents available to be signed right now that might fit the Bengals needs, such as the veteran safeties Simmons and Poyer, and centers Mitch Moore and  Cody Whitehair. I imagine teams are already negotiating with them. I hope the Bengals are at least in the mix for Simmons.

That is incredible progress on the rehab, especially considering the perceived severity of the injury at the time of the incident.  Here's to hoping he get's signed back with the Bengals, and they go onto draft T'Vondre Sweat as his heir apparent.

DJ said in an interview that this injury was not as bad as the torn quad from his first season with the team

That seems like something that most any true competitor would say.  However upon seeing the progress of his rehab to this point, his statement becomes much more of a reality than just some words to give the fans hope.

Thanks for this. Indeed that is good news. The price tag might be going up accordingly.

I can almost put my Reader + DT + Onwenu + vet S in the pipe dream category. But favorable DJ terms, the DT being Williams, the glut of S's, and maybe freeing up sone $$ with restructures keep it barely alive.

But I think Reader + DT + vet S should be the priority. Get that right and go from there.

TE Hunter Henry back with NE. 3 year deal. $27 mil total.

BTW, they also signed RT Okorafor, who was with Pitt, for $4 mil. That seems to indicate Onwenu is on his way out.

I think the Bengals need to nail their pick at 18 and make at least one solid free agent pickup. I’ve maintained for weeks they should re-sign Reader to a friendly deal. But they need a big time pass rushing DT. They need to go with a solid offensive tackle in the first round. It’s a good draft for OL. Now the question becomes? Do they cover themselves in free agency by getting a medium priced DT & RT instead of top ones like Wilkins and Chris Jones? It would be nice if we were lucky enough for Brock Bowers or a great safety or running back was there. I believe getting a middle priced DT and RT is the way to go. It gives us flexibility.
Romo “ so impressed with Zac ...1 of the best in the NFL… they are just fundamentally sound. Taylor the best winning % in the Playoffs of current coaches. Joe Burrow” Zac is the best head coach in the NFL & that gives me a lot of confidence." Taylor led the Bengals to their first playoff win since 1990, ending the longest active drought in the four major North American sports, en and appeared in Super Bowl LVI, the first since 1988.

It is great news. I hope we can come to a mutually beneficial contract; he was a key to our DL run defense.

Compensation Picks announced Bengals will receive two 6th round picks (208, 214). They kinda got screwed over on the Vonn Bell comp pick but got a slight raise from the Samaje Perine/Nick Scott deals. Bengals should have gotten pick 175 over the 49ers.

Just speculating but it looks like he’s lost some weight. He’s motivated. Not that he’s not always been but he’s playing for a contract and he wants it to be here. I’m confident that the Bengals for a variety of reasons are desired spot. A desired spot for free agents, draftees, coaches, and current players wanting to stay. The culture is sure paying dividends

The last two drafts have not been great as this would be the time where we should have built a sturdy foundation where we can use the comp pick philosophy by just adding cap casualty cut veterans looking to get a ring on 1 year deals, while losing players we expected to lose that were replaced (legitimately) by draft picks).

However we, because of the last two drafts, are stuck filling significant holes (DT, WR, Oline, Dline, CB, S, TE, RB) that theoretically a team "on the cusp" shouldn't have.

It's painful but we've taken steps back. We need to nail this draft.

I actually like Dehner's FA and a lot of the Draft there, the only thing is we are not keeping Nick Scott after last year.

We need to get a better RT than Becton and we cannot rely on DJ Reader being healthy by the opener even if things are looking
much better with him jogging. We need to add at least 2 DT's this Offseason for depth at the very least. I like Kris Jenkins the
Draft pick, but we need a FA DT. I really like Pearsall the WR from Florida, Sinnott is my 2nd favorite TE for us, getting Latham
is great in case Becton sucks.

I like a lot of what he says here, thanks Pally.

To sum up.

FA's Re-signed: Higgins, Reader, C. Sample, Hudson, Ford, ADG, Bailey, Irwin, Browning, Adomitis, Kirkland.

New FAs: Moss (RB), Becton (OT), Hurst (TE), Savage (S), Townsend (P), Fulton (CB), Tart (DT), Edwards-Helaire (RB).

Draft:
1st: Latham, OT
2nd: Pearsall, WR
3rd: Jenkins, DT
4th: Sinnott, TE
5th: Guerrero, RB
5th Comp: Nugent, IOL
6th: Rogers, DT
7th: Mausau, LB, 7th
Other comp: not listed or I missed it.

The draft isn't awful, though Jenkins will be long gone by the 3rd and likely  Sinnott by the 4th.

The guys we bring back are solid.

The outside FAs make me throw up in my mouth. Becton & Fulton & CEH are awful.
