***NFL Free Agency News & Signings Thread***
(03-13-2024, 07:24 PM)Nepa Wrote: Why did the 49ers cut Arik Armstead? They saved only 2.2 million against the cap. Was it a personality issue? is he overpaid? Too old? Too many injuries? Bengals fans are hoping to sign Armistead, but the 49ers cut him with dead money, which they are spreading over two years. I wondering what the Bengals are trying to get here.

By the way, someone above posted that he was not good against the run, but 49ers fans are saying he was very good against the run. In fact, that when he is out the run defense suffers greatly. That would be a plus in the AFC North.

They cut him as a post June 1st saving nearly 18 million.

People can hate on that guy all they want cause he's "hard to work with"... He's right.

Those guys who are wrecking their bodies have been told all of their lives to not count on getting rich from Pro Football, as well.  Certainly they took the hint and developed some other marketable skill during their extended educational path, right?  Ninja

Run game of Lamar/D-Henry/Deebo? Logan Wilson is going to have to make a ton of tackles twice a season.

I think you would have a good right to be negative then, unless both are done, could be with DJ and the team knows better.

I still think Boyd has something in the tank though, hate to see him go to the enemy.

If we get Armstead and Trent Brown by FA's end though I will debate the negativism, but as of right now, you guy's are right to be negative.

The run game is never on the defensive backs.  Perhaps a safety didnt fill a gap on occasion, but the Dline and LBs control the run game.

I'm all about players getting paid and it being a business so you shouldn't hold it against the players for trying to get the most money they can.... but there's some real small exceptions to that. If Boyd becomes a Steeler and we didn't disrespect him first, he's dead to me. Lol

I was thinking TB might sign with the J-E-T-S to catch the rock from VP Rodgers.

To be fair to us, I would let Tyler walk as well.

But I'd also have dine work in FA so I could go WR Rd2 to replace him and not have to take DT/NT RD 2.

FWIW my dream from here: Reader, Armstead, Collins. Probably do not have the space. Reader + Collins plus more shopping at DT (Rankins/Tart) and CB would be fine. Maybe OL, too. I might want a peak at C. Williams' medicals.

Back 7 includes LBers.

I dont think he is right.  These guys are multi-millionaires and they still demand even more.   There is only so much of the pie someone can take and they want to take all they can get and not worry about the others.  If you were a player I would say look at the guy beside you in the locker.  The more you take the less there is to go around for everyone else including that guy they just had to cut because they cant afford to keep everyone.  Dont say its disloyal to cut guys when the very reason a lot of these guys are cut is because of salary cap issues created by the players themselves.  You demand X amount of dollars and another player demands Y amount of dollars then you say something about loyalty when they have to cut a teammate because they no longer have enough cap space to keep everyone in a situation you helped create.

I think far too many fans are letting players like Tee off the hook. The player is in charge, not the agent. The agent cannot make the player do anything. The agent asks what the player wants, the agent tries to get that and provides the player with options. The player makes the final decision. Good agents get their clients the maximum amount of money with the team the player wants to play for.

It also includes boundary CBs with their backs to the play and a FS 20 yards from the line of scrimmage.  The Front 7 control the run.  Basic football Joe, but I will agree with you that the explosive plays could have been lessened by better angles and tackling by the secondary.  Maybe you were meaning that?

I think they just went with a standard, trendy tweet. You know, "oh boy, free agency but it's not official until 4 pm so we cannot tweet... let's post something funny." Hell, an intern probably made the post.

At this point, with who is left in FA, and the cap space we have…I’m back on the resign Tee bandwagon. The money would have been better spent on a DT and RT, but those players left aren’t better than Tee. The wise thing to do now is sign him to a 4 year $105M deal
