Back when I made the OP, I just knew that this was going to be a fun one to revisit.

This season ended up way different than I envisioned, LOL. Don't get me wrong I wasn't thinking murderer's row offense. But with the way the previous season ended mostly hitting well I figured they'd take the next step this year. Instead they are at the bottom in batting average.
And I also figured our pitching staff would struggle a bit. (They are now) But the first 2/3 of the season pitching wasn't our problem.
My hope is we're under new management next year.

Admittedly, I haven't been paying nearly as close enough attention to the team to formulate a meaningful opinion, largely in part because I refuse to purchase another subscription, one that I likely wouldn't even utilize for but about 25% of their games. So, I mostly rely on the feedback of yourself, CJD, FSV and some others to get a handle of what's going on with the Reds.
If you all think that it's time for new management, I trust your opinions.

My fear is they’ll Dead Cat Bounce their way to around .500, effectively saving David Bell his job.

Nick Krall Sheds Light on Reds Manager David Bell's Performance and Job Status (msn.com)
Bell is 100% an analytics/stats/ by the current book (no idea who wrote the current book, but it sucks) manager. Like Vinyl said getting the DH in NL saved his bacon. Bell would have no idea how to manage in the old NL.
He has no clue how to set up the lineup, he has no clue how to bring in relief pitchers or when to let the starter roll. He has no real feel for the game. If he can't look at the computer and see what to do he's lost.
He has this strange RH batter vs. LH pitcher and visa-versa crud that he runs no matter what. You could go on and on. In summary - he sucks.

That makes sense as I've seen many posts expressing disagreement with his situational decisions, all season long.
My guess is that playing the numbers was the cool thing to do, until everyone started doing it. Maybe they need a Manager that can also go with his gut, as well as follow averages when it's fitting?

Firing Bell was an unlikely proposition even a month ago. I think that's changed, and probably significantly. This team has legit talent in the starting rotation. They have 3 guys that have, by any measure, met or exceeded prospect projections. They also have depth in the minors that will be here very soon. There's a potential MVP in the lineup along with some high-quality bats up and down the order.
The defense objectively sucks donkey balls. The base running discipline is also hot garbage. Those are things I pin directly on coaching. How many of the 21 one-run losses flip to wins if they are even average in those to areas? They are also fairly bad in terms of plate discipline as well. The Royals just showed us what real plate discipline can do for a team.
Bell isn't the only problem, but he's a big enough one to warrant replacement. Also, unfortunately for him, the Reds ownership would bend over backwards to pick up a dime if it were wedged in a fresh dog turd. Why does that matter? Because firing unpopular managers is basically the cheapest PR move a bullshit ownership group can make to appease fans. They are cheap to buy off and new ones are cheap to hire. They are a hell of a lot cheaper than legit RH power bats and starting pitchers.
I know the ownership is close to the Bell family, but I think he's all but locked into the guillotine. It won't be as bad as the whacking of Dusty Baker that was subsequently followed by doing literally nothing to improve the team, but it will still be a very Castellini move. It might even help depending on who replaces him. If however, it's the main countermeasure to what ails this team, then it ain't close to enough.

And last night was a perfect example of Bell not having a clue of how to manage, no "feel" for the game. He let the starter Spiers stay on the mound for 4.1 innings while getting curb stomped for 13 hits, 10 runs, including 5 HR's and like 3 or 4 other extra base hits. Any real manager would have jerked him in half the time Bell did. It was clear to see it wasn't his night.
But I'm sure the computer model said 3 of the next 5 batters are LH or whatever?? So lets ride with him. Or some stupid stats crap!!
Please let this be Bell's last season.

"And it was GLORIOUS!"
Wish Vlad had gotten one of the XBHs, but glad he got 2 anyways, great to see an offensive explosion like that, especially when an infinitely superior pitcher (Gausman) had an off-day against a poor team he should've dominated.
