Reds August Game Thread 2024

I had this quote selected for a multi-quote awhile back, changed my mind and then de-selected all of them . . . but your quote has still popped up on my last three comments and it won't give me the option to de-select it anymore, so, sorry for the confusion, I'm sending this in hopes to get this off of my list.

When 95% of your pitches are on the outside part of the plate, you are telling everyone in the league that you already know that you don't have good enough stuff. Greg Maddux wasn't blowing anyone away, but he still owned that entire plate, up, down, in and out. You could see Pirate hitters diving into his pitches because they caught on very quickly . . . "If he does throw an inside pitch, just take it because he's going right back outside again with his next three or four. Pick out one that you like."
And it looks like the Reds saw what I saw as he was DFA'd after that performance. Now . . . let's hope that they see what we all see in David Bell.

Found this at our local vinyl records store. I said "I just might have to buy this."

Not very often you see 2 runs score on one wild pitch.

I have this.  I also have the 1972 album narrated by Al Michaels.

At the risk of speaking too soon, it's nice to just whoop a bad team like the bad team they are. Can't drop this one and fall underneath the freaking Pirates.

A Look Ahead

Reds had good crowds at GABP in Cincy Memorial Day time and 4th of July time. Those series brought in some much needed money.

Labor Day coming has Brewers and Astros in GABP in Cincy. No NFL this weekend. Reds could make a little more money over the last Summer Holiday.

Reds are not in play-off hunt, but amazingly Reds could still finish in 2nd Place in NL Central. You get past Milwaukee, the other teams are pretty close in the Loss Column. Finishing over .500 and in 2nd Place not Last is something to aim for.

What a shock, Cruz blows another one, and Reds lose another 1 run game, I’m shocked.

I commend you fellows for remaining interested in Reds baseball. I switched my brain to the Bengals weeks ago.

My Reds following has shrunk way down over the last few weeks. I haven't watched more than a couple innings in quite some time.

Diaz, despite some "hype" last season is just not good. He walks way to many batters to be a top notch closer. I hope we find his replacement next season.

Something had to of happened to him around the All-Star break last year....

Career Pre-2023 ASB: 100 games, 103.2 IP, 1.91 ERA, 4.3 H/9, 4.5 BB/9, 12.5 K/9
Career Post-2023 ASB: 78 games, 72.2 IP, 4.46 ERA, 7.1 H/9, 5.5 BB/9, 8.8 K/9

His average FB velocity has also dropped 1.7mph from 2022 to 2024.

He only had 7 of his 59 appearances when his FB averaged <95mph in 2022, and 4 of those were in April when it's still cold.
He's only had 5 of his 48 appearances when his FB average >95mph in 2024, and none of >95.1mph.

His swinging strike % has gone from 16.5%, to 14.7%, to now 10.8% this year and it's turning into contact going from 66.6% to 68% to 76.6% of the pitches that are swung at. It's just a complete falling apart of everything he did well.

They should send Diaz to the New York Mets, where he can lose games with his brother. Get whatever you can in return. Dude has been poopwater since mid 2023. Ready to see what maybe a Tony Scantillan or Sam Moll can do with the job!

Until my teams are mathematically eliminated, I'm all in.

My following of them hasn't changed . . . however, my posting has lessened because my job has changed and now I'm not getting off of work until 8 PM(Midnight Cincinnati time) so my post game comments are around 3 or 4 am in Cincinnati.

I'd put Sam Moll in there and see what he can do . . . he seems fearless and that's a very important trait in a closer.

I've praised him in this forum before . . . Pirates manager Derek Shelton just made the decision to move Oneil Cruz from SS to Center Field. Bell will never have the balls to make the same decision.
