Hubbard is bad
#1
Can't tackle and can't rush the passer. Really doesn't do much of anything. He's now officially a liability and hurting this team.

The crew over at Locked on Bengals actually discussed this recently and agreed that not only was he worse than his usual. Hes actually pure ass now. James Rapien actually suggested Cedric Johnson get more snaps because of how ineffective Hubbard is.

My guess is that the ankle he had issues with may be medically repaired but it doesn’t feel good day to day and definitely feels shitty in games. I think Hubbard is done and he knows he’s done but he has to feed his family so he’s trying to keep playing football for the money.

If you guys remember Hubbard at one point was the most efficient run defending defensive end in the league. You don’t just forget how to defend. I think his ankle feels like shit and he can’t generate any power or fast twitch moves anymore.

I would be immensely surprised if Hubbard ever played good again

Hubbard definitely looks invisible out there. The Bengals can save a little over $7 million if they cut him next year, but it'll be the last year of his deal and I can see the team hanging onto him. He's friends with Burrow and he's a guy that Zac depends on for locker room leadership.

There's no way that every DE on this roster is better than Carl Lawson.

Fun fact: Carl Lawson and Sam Hubbard were born on the same day

I’d like to think if I was a Bengals fan playing for the team and I’d made enough money to set myself and my family up for life, that I’d be able to walk away knowing I was holding the team back.

Easier said than done when it’s real life money, I’d like to see him stay around the team as an assistant coach or something, I think he would have a lot to offer in that role but he’s well past his best playing wise.

He should be cut in the summer if he doesn’t call it a day after this year.

Irwin is friends with Burrow now Hubbard ...they can still be friends its not like Hubbard is moving away. We can not keep guys just because Burrow is friends with them tired of hearing this stuff.

Hate to say it, but I think Sam may be washed.

Myles Murphy should be back by the Ravens game so I'm excited to see if he can take Hubbards spot and turn Hubbard into the rotational DE.

Another important name is McKinnley Jackson we need to see how well he handles 3 down NT reps because that should be a priority position for them next off-season.

Anyone have a breakdown of how many snaps he's taken at DE vs DT?
He used to have some success as nickel DT early in his career, but I dunno how well he'd do there now.
With the lack of healthy DTs right now though, it might be worth a try.
Although Ossai doesn't seem to be doing anything outside either, so it might be Cedric Johnson or bust until Murphy is back.

With all the DL investment in the draft in the past few years, I'd hate to have to spend more picks there next year, but it might have to happen given the cost of quality FAs.
They still have Hendrickson for one more year after this, so that helps.

With Karras, Cappa, and Volson set to hit FA either after this year (Karras) or next year (Cappa/Volson), they also need to draft some IOL to groom.

Maybe we'll see a DE, 3T, and two IOL in the first four picks for the Bengals this next draft.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.

Sorry for Party Rocking!

He played some DT vs the Chiefs because of injury last week he was getting snaps next to Carter and Tufele so he was doubled alot inside.

DT- 4
LE- 2
LEO- 24
LOLB- 9
NT- 1
ROLB- 3

That's vs Wash. Previous 2 games combined, 1 snap inside.

Sam is the worst pass rush DE in the league
He ranked 127th out of 128 last game
He was on average 6.6 yds away from Daniels
When he released the ball.
At this point I'd even bring up Isiah Thomas
From the PS.
Move Hubbard to DT. He's worthless at DE

If Lou does not get fired during the season the only way he can save his job is to develop as much young talent on this team as possible by getting them reps in games. Because if we do not see a drastic change on defense at the end of the year fans will being calling for Lou to be fired in masses.

This is the correct take. He got injured in training camp as well remember. Not sure if that was the ankle or something else but that could also be lingering.

That being said, its absolutely asinine for the coaches to continue running him out there. It's not Hubbards fault, he's going to want to play. This falls on the staff.
