Well, this is pretty much a nightmare matchup for us. The Eagles have a top shelf defense, #9 in average yards allowed per game, #5 in fewest passing yards allowed per game. And they're the 6th best rushing team - Barkley, duh. The only thing we really have going is it's at home.
Like playing the Ravens our offense has to be firing on all cylinders vs a stout defense for us to have a chance. And we need some turnovers. I'll say we do it, barely.

The Browns in Week 7 had the...
1st (Moore)
16th (Njoku)
22nd (Tillman)
23rd (Jeudy)
...pass catchers in average separation for the whole NFL that week. Need to be better than that against AJ Brown/Devonta Smith/Dallas Goedert. Also Saquon Barkley is 3rd in the NFL in rushing and averaging 6.1 yards per carry. Hurts rushed for 2 TDs last week and QBs running have hurt us.
This week will certainly answer us the question of if our defense actually improved from earlier in the season, or if it was just a mirage from playing Daniel Jones and Deshaun Watson back-to-back weeks.

Eagles are loaded.
Im going to go 27 - 17 Eagles. Bengals will really struggle to move the ball again in this one...especially if OBJ doesnt play.

The lack of coverage Njoku was getting during the game was maddening. No one was around him in the middle of the field around a 10 yard radius.
Who was guarding Elijah Moore all game? CTB?

No matter who is running the show or which faces occupy the positions, the Bengals have struggled to successfully cover TEs for as long as I can remember.

Eagles had like 8 sacks last week and Bengals could very well be starting Cody Ford at LT. He did good last week but that still will be a major concern against the Eagles pass rush. Sample should spend a lot of time lining up next to Ford this week.

Maybe get Ivy in the game to cover the TE?

We lose by a TD because Hurts gets butt pushed on a rushing TD.

Pretty sure it's a FO philosophy issue.
Bengals generally haven't historically preferred smaller faster LBs. Even Logan Wilson who was our "coverage" LB was 241 and ran a 4.63 as a rookie. He's now listed at 245 (so quite possibly even higher as those numbers are self-reported, remember Roethelisberger from the combine to his age 39 season was listed at 1 pound ligher, lol) and you don't get faster as you get older. He's in his age 28 season now and at least according to PFR every year he's allowed a higher QB Rating than the previous year.
Pratt was 240 at the combine and is now listed at 250 and in his age 28 season.
Burfict was 248 at the combine, later listed at 255 (almost certainly an underestimate) and visibly got bigger and slower through the years.
Maualuga was 249 at the combine and drinking doesn't keep you slim and he got real big at the end there listed at 258 but certainly more. (Congrats to him on multiple years of sobriety now, though.)

You look at the non-pass-rushing LBs on the All-Pro teams the last 3 years...
Quincy Williams: 225lb Pro Day/230lb listed now
Roquan Smith: 236lb Combine/230lb listed now
Fred Warner: 236lb Combine/230lb listed now
Matt Milano: 223lb Combine & listed now
Shaq Leonard: 234lb Combine/230lb listed now
De'Vondre Campbell: 232 Combine & listed now
232 is the highest weight listed now and 236 was the highest at the combine. We like our big boy LBs, and they get bigger and slower as the years go on, rather than losing weight to not lose a step.

Trey should be going up against our old buddy Fred Johnson at LT.

I had hopes that ADG would turn into that athletic coverage guy, but even he looks 20# thicker than when first drafted.

Eagles like us have played a super soft schedule. The Oline and Dline are both weaknesses for Eagles. Which Oline plays better probably wins hoping it's us. Kitty Goes Meow.

Yes sir
We have gotten gashed by many TE's in many games going back years and years. It's maddening

I can't believe we're this many posts in and no one has yet mentioned the dreaded "t" word. T as in tie. In two of the last four times these teams have met (2008 and 2020) they've tied. Now, perhaps they're on a 12-year tie cycle and this won't be a material concern until 2032, but who knows.
Another low-scoring game, 20-17 Bengals as McPherson redeems his miss last week with a late FG.

Eagles defense wasn't that good earlier in the season either, until they looked better the last two weeks against, wait for it,
Deshaun Watson and Daniel Jones in back-to-back weeks.
Kind of interesting, both Cincy and Phil last two weeks have both played Cleveland and NYG.
That said, Eagles offense definitely has the skill players that Clevalend and NYG certainly don't have. Defense has a real test here.
Cincy's offense is going to have to be on point like they were for the last two home games. Offense going to have to be much better than the last two games.

Should be a good game that goes down to the wire once again for us. Just don't let Barkley run all over us and we have a good shot
of winning. Jalen Hurts has had his problems at times this season but he has his WR's back and they are really good, right there with
Chase and Tee as the top WR duo in the NFL. My prediction....
Bengals - 30
Eagles - 28
Last second FG by McPherson to get back in the fan's good graces.
