***Week 8 GameDay Thread - Eagles @ Bengals***

I mean, they sacked Shula mid-season, so I guess change can happen.  Guess Zac just has to blow a 21-0 halftime lead to the Raiders next week.

MB will wait until the Bye week.
He's the eternal optimist.

Waiting until the Bye week will confirm if the Bengals have any chance to compete for a playoff spot or not, as they could end up between 6-5 at best and 3-8 at worst.

My opinion though based on what I've seen through 8 weeks is this is a mid team.
They can beat the trash teams (CAR, NYG, CLE, maybe LV next week), but they are too inconsistent and don't have enough big time playmakers to beat the good ones.

Unfortunately, we knew it was going to be a struggle staying competitive once Burrow signed his veteran deal, resulting in the FO having to rely more on drafting well and getting more immediate contributions from guys on rookie contracts than being able to pay so many quality veteran paid guys to cover the rest.

When it comes to proven playmakers, the Bengals really have maybe 4-5 on the team total right now?
Burrow
Chase
Higgins
Hendrickson
Logan Wilson being the maybe 5th
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.

Sorry for Party Rocking!

The problem is, the defense is not good. Can’t stop run, can’t cover receivers, no pressure on QB. Offense goes to sleep, with piss poor play calling, killing drives.

Some folks are “happy with what we have”

They’ll still be talking about those two playoff runs 10 years from now.

When we made the SB, we had a top roster. And our staff is mediocre.

Now, I'm not sure we even have a top 20 roster.

Revenue not coming in from select sources still matters. NFL owners don’t all get the same profit from NFL branding and TV. The NFL DOES INDEED have a revenue-sharing system in place, which means that all 32 teams share in the league's profits. However, the amount of money that each team receives is not equal. The teams that are more successful on the field tend to receive more money from the league. This is because they are more likely to sell more tickets, merchandise, therefore, broadcast rights. If said tickets, merch, etc. suffer a significant enough hit, that factors in -- especially to billionaires, who want to stay that way, by keeping all available revenue streams open.  Cool

They're going to have trouble building a team around a big qb contract. It puts a premium on drafting and developing guys. Our mediocre staff relies on players to make spectacular plays over scheme.

And the ***** Browns are going to win.  Watch them go on a run and guess who will end up in the cellar at season's end?

Browns showing how a QB makes all the difference in the world. Suddenly play calling improves, suddenly coaching improves..

No other discussion matters.

This team will never be successful again with Taylor at HC.

Good luck with that.  I've been watching this crap for 35+ years.

If complete and utter incompetence, idiocy and embarrassment won SB's we would have about 30 Lombardi's at this point.

I genuinely hope they just sell the team.  Bengals football in no way shape or form is fun anymore.  I drag myself to the TV wondering how we are going to eff things up and lose every game.  No excitement, no cheering.  Just waiting for the implosion and they sure as shit didn't let me down today.

They will change NOTHING no matter how bad it gets.  It's the Brown family.  The root cause of the infection and there is no medication or cure.  The Brown family are like a disease that just slowly eats away fun and excitement.

We are halfway through this season.  It's over.  No matter what happens between now and next season I will have no hope, no excitement and I will expect what most likely will happen.  More losing, more wasting Burrow and Chase, more embarrassment.  Same coaches, crappy draft that everyone will get excited for (hope) and then the inevitable losing season will start again.

I'm done being Charlie Brown and Lucy (Brown family) pulling the ball away.  35+ years.  I'm done.  This season finally broke me.  Eff the Brown family.
