Going For It on 4th Down Was Stupid
#1
It was too early in the game, the game was close. Going for it on 4th down gave Eagles the ball already in Field Goal position. I can see it on the other side of the 50, but in that situation YOU PUNT. You punt because it's a close game and not picking up the 1st down was the same as a fumble giving Eagles great field position. Eagles took control of the game from then on. It's not rocket science. 4th down around your own 35, you Punt and try to pin them back. The score was close with plenty of time on the clock, Going for it was Stupid.

I think at that point Zac knew he would need to try and keep the offense on the field. After all Philly did just put up 140 yards and 14 points in just 11 plays the prior two posessions. I liked the decision to go just a horrible play call.

I didn't hate going for it. I hated the plays called on 3rd and 4th down to go for it. There's nothing wrong with throwing the ball PAST the line of scrimmage.

Agreed. The defense couldn't stop Philly. Best to keep the offense on the field. But throwing the ball behind the line of scrimmage with two defenders right there made no sense.

Same. Going or kicking was a "ok" either way for me. Just don't be stupid. I said in the GDT that we had a pass that worked behind the line of scrimmage and now they would think it was a good play, and damn if they don't go it using it. Hate those. Hate tosses. We spam them at the worst times.

you hate running the ball on 3rd and 1? that to me is the obvious playcall. The team's run blocking is so pathetic though. Maybe he shouldve remembered the o-line is bad. Youre supposed to convert those 3rd and shorts with simple run plays

See, I disagree with both of you.  Fans want to go on 4th down even if you are close to getting a safety.  Play Call ?   The only Play Call there is PUNT.  The score was close with a lot of the game to go.  You don't take a chance of giving the other team the ball in field goal range like a Fumble, you PUNT.   Fans always want to go for it, but a Head Coach should know better.

As far as I'm concerned that was the same as a Fumble and a Turnover that swung a close game in favor of Eagles at that point in the game.

It's the "obvious" call and it was Zack Moss, who over the last 4 games has 55 yards on 26 carries (2.1ypc) with 2 fumbles (1 lost).

he's averaging 2.1 ypc? so the numbers say he shouldve been able to get 1 yard

Why couldn't we do this on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th, and 1?

That's not how averages work, Frank, and I know that you know that. That's why 3.4ypc RBs aren't unstoppable machines that you just run 3 times in a row for a 1st down.

Of those 26 carries he's gotten 0 yards or less 6 times and 1 yard or less (was it a long 3rd and 1? then you wouldn't get it) 14 of the 26 carries.

We have a punter who can legitimately flip the field. Use him as a weapon.

We also have a defense that will legitimately allow opposing offenses to march down the entire field.

We punted zero times and scored 17.

I agree i would not have went for it, but it was not the difference in the game, we never scored the rest of game, would have lost by 7.. it is also the tend we see with many teams in the NFL.. Harbaugh did it once or twice against us.. Eagles went for it at least once our their side of 50 today...

The next time we throw the ball behind LOS on 4th down we should stop watching because either the league is rigged or burrow is stupid. I have a feeling the latter is not true.

But it's such a basic play there. You don't pass or run. You Punt.  You hope for a 55 yard punt there to back them up by their end zone. You don't go for it there. Pau; Brown would have never went for it there at that point of the game, of course he is only in The Pro Football Hall of Fame.

I was fine with going for it the play call was idiotic however. You need a yard any route over a yard and a half would work and you chose a play behind the line. Zac did this exact same play week 1 vs. the Patriots on 4 and 1 and they lost 2 yards lol.

I don't mind going for it. The playcall was utter shit though. This team is NEVER good on horizontal passes. EVER. So what does he call? A pass that has to travel to the wide flat with no blockers in front.

Utterly stupid, braindead, unaware call.
