We can win out
#41
If only we had a player like Jessie Bates on D.    Oh wait, we did.  A DT before the trade deadline?  Nope.  Any D help?  Nope.

We did pick up a RB who fumbled his only carry and almost broke our centers ankle.

I'm sorry, but as long as the Brown family owns this team it's just Lucy pulling the ball away.

Some people are holding on to chance of making the playoffs, but even if the Bengals did, do you honestly expect them to do well against top tier squads?

When this team stepped up to the big dogs this season, they've ultimately been outcoached and outplayed.

They have lost to the chiefs and ravens 3 times, by a combined 5 points. If the bengals make the playoffs, they might be one of the most dangerous 7 seeds of all time. No one, NO ONE, would want to face Joe burrow in January.

A bad PI call, botched snap, missed facemask. These 3 plays separate 4-6 and 7-3.

It’s been very unfortunate.

I honestly don't expect this to happen, but if we make the playoffs from here, it'd be off the back of a 6-1 run and that would make us one of the hottest teams in the NFL.

If we do that, we'll have at least gone 3-1 over the Steelers (x2), Broncos and Chargers (I imagine at least two of these are in the playoffs).

We are 0-3 against the Ravens and Chiefs, but could easily have been 3-0.

We'd absolutely be a team that they wouldn't want to play, if we make it in from here. We're dead and buried right now, so to make it in the turnaround would have to be stark.

The only game we've been trounced was the Eagles game. We've been in all these games, our defence just hasn't been any good. If we make it in from here, they'll have clearly figured something out as we aren't going 6-1 the way they're playing currently.

Most games in the NFL are determined by a td or less. The key is to be on the winning side.

Last week, 10 games were determined by a td or less. 5 were not.

And...what you're saying is probably why the Bengals won't fire coaches or make the changes to the roster that they need. Theyll morph 4-6 into coulda been 7-3. It's what losers do. They rationalize losing instead of figuring out how to win.

Some of the negativity is warranted Brown should be back at LT Higgins might give us another month before he pulls a hammy or quad nobody we face including Steelers are super scary Russ isn't athletic enough to evade Tre Cooper Rush nothing special Bo Nix Dangerous but average speed and inaccuracy issues. Herbert a good QB but the receivers are mediocre and our Dline might feast against Chargers. We already beat Browns. I don't even need to explain Titans offensive ineptitude only thing loss Thursday cost us was a home playoff game.

Idk how you can just overlook the steelers. They always beat cincy at least once. Only times the bengals swept them was 09 and 21. You’re a blind optimist if I’m being honest. Best case is 9-8

They could, but it's not probable.

Bengals have no wins against a team with a winning record.
Bengals have wins against CLE, LV, CAR, and NYG, all of whom are 2-7 right now. They are bottom-barrel teams.

While the Steelers have played a pretty easy schedule to-date, they do have the #2 defense in Points Allowed currently.
Beating them twice will be tough.

LAC and DEN both have winning records right now.
Bengals have to play in LA for that game, and they have traditionally had challenges playing on the West Coast.
Beating both of them will also be a tough task.

If we give the assumption of Bengals beating TEN, CLE, and DAL, that would put them at 7 wins worst-case.

My guess is 4-5 more wins.
Aside from the 3 crappy teams mentioned above, I think they'll sneak 1 win between DEN and LA (leaning toward DEN) and maybe 1 win against PIT.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.

Sorry for Party Rocking!

1) You have to beat chargers, currently a playoff team and tie breakers will matter.  Need  momentum going into the bye.

2) They then have two sets of 3 games.  The must got 2-1 or better in each  mini series, with some key must wins.

- Split, or sweep Steelers. Can’t lose both.
- beat broncos (another team with playoff aspirations, tiebreakers matter).
- unless they win out, the best game to drop would be cowboys.

I expect 9-8 will get you in (when the dust settles), if you beat chargers, broncos and Steelers 2x

not to be a Debbie downer but LAC is a way better team , they have a talented O Line and  will pound the ball on them with Dobbins setting up Herbert perfectly to slice up our pathetic secondary and impotent pass rush. Not to mention better Coaches. I want a W but im now getting in that all too familiar feeling as a long time Bengals fan to just tank and get a high draft pick. The higher the pick the more likely Duke cant screw it up right?.  I hate seeing Burrow looking like Andrew Luck Part II  and they better stop putting him in if they get into a situation where no playoff path possible.

Jessie did'nt earn a huge payday here, if he played the whole season as playoff Jessie Bates then that would've been different. Why would you pay a guy who did'nt give effort the whole season? He did'nt want to be here is my opinion, thus lack of effort.

Can the Bengals make the playoffs? I guess it's possible. But at some point you have to stop people. Beyond Trey our defense is Swiss cheese. Want specifics?

Hubbard -- ineffective, playing hurt
Rankins -- who's that?
Ossai -- see Rankins
Murphy -- see Rankins, Ossai
Jenkins & Jackson -- potential don't get it
Wilson --- not what he was
CTB -- not what we thought he would be
Turner -- great in the 40 but it ain't a track meet
Vonn -- see Wilson
Stone -- see Rankins, Ossai, Murphy

We have the best QB/WR combo in the league. But you have to be at least average on defense to win in any sport. We are nowhere close to average and it's not gonna change.

In 2021? No he didn't.

He had a poor missed tackle rate in 2019 and 2020 and that was mostly due to the DL and LBs being so bad Bates and Shawn Williams led the entire team in tackles with over 100 a piece.

How did he show lack of effort?
By being the highest graded safety in 2020 by PFF?
By leading the team in solo tackles in 2021?
By  being our best player during the playoff run in 2021?
By leading the team in INTs in 2022?

I thought his effort was really bad when he refused to chase down the Ravens QB in the playoff game in the 2022 playoffs and he let Baltimore score the go-ahead TD. Oh wait my bad the exact opposite happened  and then Sam Hubbard scored a 98 yard TD on the next play.

Bates first 3 years were damn near elite. Then he started to half ass it in the regular season when he was due for a payday

but then he turned it back up to elite in the 21 and 22 postseason.
