Time to clear the benches

IDK we can call the season over yet. We lose to Pitt in 2-weeks, then we'll talk about preparing for next season.

I agree. There is a chance with 9-8 till the last week - as it was last year.

But after a season and a half of no interior pass rush and the secondary getting gashed for chunk plays, it is hard to think that 9-8 is a real possibility.

Bengals can hit on rounds 1 through 6 and still not fill all the holes. Need some guys to step up big.

I did a predictor before the Chargers game and I had 9-8 as being enough. But it did involve us beating the Chargers...

I do think there's a world where 9-8 does it, but I don't for the life of me see the Bengals getting 9 wins.

Matt Lee was really good at Miami in college. Really tough. I don't expect him to be a star right off the bat, but he should play.

The one where he barely drug his toe...it tapped inadvertently. That's one that I swear I could have caught and drug my 2nd foot on.

And some of his misses, he barely even tried for them. No burst. No leap. Just kind of sticks his hand up.

Here is the odd part for me.  I went back and looked at some Alabama videos on YouTube with him.  He didn't do any of these things (granted, YouTube is only showing the good catches) but he took hits, didn't short arm catches, made some contested catches.  I thought we might have got a good Boyd replacement, but it sure looks like Saban was right about him all along.  It is almost like the whole NFL thing is a joke to him.  Seeing how long he can string it along.  Weird.

Being mathematically on life support for playoff qualification and having the ability to stop any other playoff teams from scoring at will are two different things. For all intents and purposes, this season is over.

Tycen Anderson needs to play free safety he has 4.3 speed Battle is slow and need to play in Bells spot at strong safety. Don't come at me with our safety are interchangeable Battle cannot cover sideline to sideline in single high.

I agree to play the youth but like bfine stated Zac will not see the season over yet. Let us hope he starts thinking about the future as we are. Weather we start now which we should during the bye week or after the Steelers game the youth movement has to be made. Way to many issues to fix next year without knowing where we stand with the young guys.

Some of these changes should have already been made Karras has looked as bad as the rest of the oline at certain times out there and Matt Lee is not undersized. Lee and Karras are listed at 6'4 310 pounds on Bengals web site.

If we had this youth movement it would at least give the fans something to look forward to these last 6 games.

I’m all for getting a look at Matt Lee, but more because I want Volson or Cappa off the field. Not because Karras has been bad. He’s actually having a very good season. At least as a pass blocker anyway.

Wait! The Bengals coming up with some brilliant salvage plan that doesn't waste talent?  You probably have a much better chance of finding the urine soaked winning MegaMillions and Powerball tickets on the same day behind the toilet in the gas station bathroom up the street.. ShockedI'm not  saying that I have lost ALL faith in the Bengals. After all, they'll still make money regardless of their record.

I have seen Karras get pushed back into Joes lap a few times as well as have issues handling stunts. I put this more on Pollock than anyone for the stunts since our pass blocking and rub blocking looks like crap. But I have been calling for Pollacks head for a few years and nothing has changed so just tried of beating that dead horse. Lou will be the same his defense has not been top 15 or better but he won't be fired till Zac is.

Karras might stick around here a few more years but Lee or someone else will be the future at center not Karras at his age.

IDK what Burtons deal is, but no call no show was it for me. I couldn't care any less about what they do with him.

I agree with this Wyche.  Burton seems think he's bigger than the team. First thing I learned playing sports from my coach if your on time you're late. If you're a no call, no show in the pro's, why in the hell would you think they're gonna let you play lol.... I watched a throw into the end zone on Sunday and Burton put 1 hand out.  Like someone else said the kid doesn't like contact.  You have too many good character players on this team to allow 1 player mess up chemistry.

Agreed. No call, no show can you fired out here in the working world. I'm no fan of it out here either.....let alone from a guy making that much money to play a game.

A wise coach would recognize that this season is in the tank, as far as playoffs go, and acknowledge that he and the staff need to take a closer look at the younger talent that they selected. Building for 2025 needs to start now.

And honestly, playing the youngsters is going to get a better result.

Lee has put on some pounds it seems. The knock on him coming out was "lack of mass and NFL size". He weighed in at 288 at the Senior Bowl.

I'd like to see the young guys in the secondary for sure. I'd like to see anyone out there playing guard at this point, so if that's Lee to C and Teddy to G, so be it. I'm just leery of the inexperience getting Joe creamed more than he already is.

I'm talking about putting Lee in at Center and putting Karras in for Volson. Get Burton at least 50% of the WR2 snaps going forward (this team isn't going to the playoffs, might as well get Burrow and Burton on the same page). Activate McLaughlin and start playing him, see what he's got to offer for the future.  Defensively, give Murphy the bulk of Hubbard's snaps, Sam ain't doing anyone any good continuing to hobble around out there, anyway. Jordan Battle should get extensive time at both Safety positions, as Stone nor Bell are the future in that secondary. Lastly, get Jenkins and Jackson as many reps as possible to prepare them for next year.

This season is in the shitter as far as playoff aspirations go, but plenty of time to look at the younger guys and see if they have what it takes to become strong contributors going forward.

Heck, I could argue we would have a better shot at winning out if we did what you say here. Don't think we will regardless but having Volson,
Irwin, Geno Stone, Sam Hubbard out there I think makes winning out impossible lol

When I hear clear the benches, I think we're about to see a fight lol.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.

Sorry for Party Rocking!

Yeah, in classic sports mentality that would be the first thing that I thought of, as well. Too many fines and suspensions associated with testosterone overload in this day and age..

I made my sentiments clear on that topic last week. Maybe I should make it an ongoing theme?  "Where are Joe's protectors when he gets continual cheap shots and uncalled facemaskings?"

Like I said last week, if Andrew Whitworth were to ever witness something like that, he would have likely speared the guilty party in the back and come up swinging.
