I assume not valuing the safety is from the old school Paul Brown philosophy on football and business. I'm convinced he handed Mikey a dusty journal that had talking points in it like: pay the QB/WR to lure in fans, don't ever over pay for a Safety or IOL player, make the players buy their own jocks, and whole bunch of other football anecdotes.

The entire NFL undervalues safety. And the Bengals are usually behind the curve. Safety value is what LB value was back when most teams ran the football. CB is also undervalued after a golden age when shutdown corners were paid the same as elite WRs. Admittedly, teams can throw away from elite CBs, but defenses can move players as well. Safety and CB performance varies almost twice as much as other positions year to year. A clear risk but also an opportunity.
Overvalued is the defensive line. Seems wrong based on the Bengals experience, but all this assumes that an good starting player has an average backup.

Jeanty is a bad, bad man.

He's gonna make some GM look damn smart for bucking that "You don't spend a 1st on a RB" trend.

Not a great week for matchups.

Clemson vs Pittsburgh
Rutgers vs Maryland - Kyle Monangai vs Jordan Davis and the Maryland front 7.
Missouri vs South Carolina - Aireontae Ersery vs a top South Carolina DL

Tennessee vs Geoegia - James Pearce vs the Georgia OTs who were destroyed by Princely Umanmielen and Jared Ivey last week.

He's a fun RB to watch play. I'd be okay with the Bengals taking him, but I'm guessing Zac's offense/Burrow as a shotgun passer/Pollack sucking/OL sucking wouldn't be a good fit for Jeanty.

Tre Harris WR probably for Ole Miss this week after being out a month.
Notre Dame secondary (Morrison, Watts)against Army who run the ball alot. Top 20 matchup.
VTech CBs (Delane, Strong) up against a decent Duke offense.

Good List. I haven't watched many defensive backs but I'm trying to sneak a few in before I do a mock. Benjamin Morrison is out for the season right? I thought Xavier Watts played the rover for Notre Dame but he is the free safety. Tre Harris vs Jason Marshall would have been a good matchup but I think Marshall is injured.

Some other games.

Indiana vs Ohio State - Top 10 matchup Indiana's veteran defensive front vs thr Ohio State rush offense.
Iowa vs Maryland - Two Feldman Freaks going head to head in Hawkeye's C Logan Jones vs Tarp's NT Jordan Phillips.
Kentucky vs Texas - Deone Walker vs the Texas OL.
Iowa State vs Utah -  Jaylin Noel and Jayden Higgins vs Utah's secondary.

Penn State vs Minnesota - Aireontae Ersery vs Abdul Carter is probably the prospect matchup of the weekend. With a good showing vs Carter, Ersery has a chance to really climb boards in a bad OT class.

Yep and he's probably a mid round pick too which is ideal.

I watched Malaki Starks the last couple days and he is very interesting. Outstanding combination of speed, instincts, technique, physicality. Position versatile that does play post safety alot.

But where do you Draft a Post Safety?

This Arizona ST RB impresses every time I watch him.

I just don't know if his game will translate when he goes against grown men

Arizona State wins the Big 12 and just joined the conference this year. Now both Texas and Oregon have a good shot of winning the conferences they just joined in 2024. Kinda crazy.

CFB Playoff Bracket is in. Boise State has a decent shot at making the Natty.

I'm rooting for them as the non-traditional team/underdog. Plus, the RB is fun to watch.
