Jermaine Burton not going to Pittsburgh
He’s shown flashes this year with some deep catches.
He’s been good on returns.
He really hasn’t played much to really evaluate him though.

I liked a couple videos of him picking up teammates after mistakes.
He predicted Tee would bounce back and catch the game winner.
He definitely seems to have a passion for the game.

He’s shown a lot of immaturity though.
He doesn’t seem very bright.
He needs to hit rock bottom and learn from it.
If he finds ‘the way’ he could still be great.

In the draft I liked the pick because in college he was a great route runner, played with great passion, and caught everything.
But if he can’t mature it will definitely be a waste of talent.

I think it’s early to release him.
I’d give him some more time but if he doesn’t figure it out it makes sense to cut ties.

There really isn’t much behind the top 3 receivers and now it sounds like the top two will be re-signed.
Overall I don’t think we are going to missing out on a lot by keeping him in the roster as a 4th/5th WR.
If we re-sign Tee and Chase we don’t need him though.
He could be a good backup option for both of them, but only if he gets his head in the right place.

Having to learn life skills, working side jobs to make ends meet and so they can budget out enough of their money to eat ramen wasn't ever really in his curriculum. It's not like public schools are really teaching you useful life skills like that, so unless your parents teach you, you're kind of stuck to figure it out yourself.

For normal people it's slower and with lower stakes than a 7-digit salary, and probably close to your childhood home rather than wherever the 1 of 32 teams took you are located.
One big problem with this assumption why is it then that a super majority of nfl rookies dont end up like it seems Burton is headed. It looks like he attended a solid high school in CA that offered classes that would have taught him  to know you have to pay your rent and show up to class/work .

It is so easy to judge other people. This kid is obviously troubled and might need more help than the Bengals realized when they drafted him. I'm sure they are doing everything they can to help him grow up, including leaving his ass home from Pittsburgh and leaving his ass on the bench all year. You have to speak to people in language they can understand. I just hope he's listening. The world is full of people with great potential who can't get out of their own way.

Jordan Palmer's stance is that prospects don't fail teams teams fail prospects. I can see that in some situations like Jacksonville and Carolina.

Seems like he is on the same career arc as Odell Thurman.

These players go to these quality schools as "sports management" majors. Jermaine is about to fall out of the NFL because it takes work and doesn't have an education to fall back on. He will be playing in the UFL for 30k to 50k a year.

Now we’re seeing why he was available in rd. 3 it has nothing to do with talent. The fact that he hasn’t learned from missing the Raiders game is troubling. Also I think the front office was banking on this guy filing in if Higgins walked next season. I feel like if Tee leaves it’s going to be the Jessie Bates sage 2.0. Letting stars walk and getting zero production from there replacements. Should be a lessons learned.

It’s a lesson on how this team

NEEDS ROBUST SCOUTING.

Good lord, it’s so f*cking obvious.
Go Benton Panthers!!

What do you think he had time to do .....watch tape, or actively scout his games, look how he acts on the sidelines, watch him in practice, talk to coaches, etc. Zac, Marvin, whoever, doesn't have time to get in depth with scouting college players AND run a NFL franchise. Even if it was Zac's choice, this is more of an indictment on our "scouting department" than anything else.

I don't think this is a scouting issue. I think they knew what they were getting, everybody did which is why he fell. I think it was an overestimation of their abilities to help the obviously immensely talented young man.

Oh my god he's speaking this bullshit 2nd grade Ebonics as a grown ass man?

Who the hell signed off on this pick?

Looks like someone pulled a lot of string$$$ to get him into college to play ball.

This organization... Whatever

More than half the NFL is functionally illiterate. Don't believe me, listen to their interviews.

Yeah kind of. Thurman had a monster rookie year and then got bounced out of league in couple of years after cause of substance abuse. Burton did squat his rookie year, and will most likely be bounced out of league because of mental reasons for whatever reason.

It makes perfect sense if he has a touch of autism, which I have said is my belief. Having a daughter on the spectrum, I can attest getting in trouble makes her sorry for the moment, and she understands the ramifications, but it goes away and she does not learn from it like everyone else and is apt to repeat the action. It's part of the spectrum. Of course, we don't know that he is autistic, I am just guessing, but not being able to manage his bills is not surprising if he is.

At this point Burton is empty space on the roster and should be cut at the earliest time that favors the team moneywise.

I agree with this as well.

I'm guessing that Saban wouldn't have trashed Burton on draft day if he had a health issue.
