Was coming to post the same. I wouldn't be mad about that. Former head coach to come in and take over the D.

He did some impressive work with the Colts D earning that Bears head coaching job.

I'm actually hoping its Eberflus. He had some solid defenses in Indy as a DC, and I think he's better suited as a DC. His scheme is stopping the run and creating turnovers. In the AFC North stopping the run is critical as we have Henry, jackson, Chubb, and the usual Pittsburgh Running game. I for one want to go back to the 4-3 defense and utilize an Edge LB to rush on certain downs to be more aggressive instead of soft zone ala Anarumo.

Our base defense is nickel with 4 down lineman: we already are/have a 4-3.

Locked On Bengals guys seem 98% it will be Al Golden.
I like it actually, ND has a very good defense.

Like I said before, if the issue with the defense was Lou being stuck to his formula or not being able to "coach up" all these draft picks, bring in Saleh or some other DC and keep these same guys we currently have and see how great the defense is next year.   I think we all better however that isnt going to happen.    You will see some guys cut, free agents signed and high draft picks being spent on defense because the current talent isnt there on defense.

Bates is all pro level talent, and our D has dropped like a rock in the ocean after his departure.

I wonder what happens in the unlikely event that Golden's defense delivers a lock down performance vs the Buckeyes tonight. Does he draw more demand as a college HC? That's a job he's actually had before, so not unthinkable. In that scenario, what is more enticing? NFL DC or college HC?

I'd say NFL DC, simply due to the fact that it could lead to a NFL HC position if all goes wildly good. College HC is a tough job with NIL and recruiting.

I think the only issue would be money and how much of a disparity there is in offers.

Yes
Romo “ so impressed with Zac ...1 of the best in the NFL… they are just fundamentally sound. Taylor the best winning % in the Playoffs of current coaches. Joe Burrow” Zac is the best head coach in the NFL & that gives me a lot of confidence." Taylor led the Bengals to their first playoff win since 1990, ending the longest active drought in the four major North American sports, en and appeared in Super Bowl LVI, the first since 1988.

Nice post.

But I feel that the path to an NFL HC position would be the same for HIM whether he is a college HC or NFL DC.

And of course - to your point, if he gets $4M+ offer as a college HC and $1M offer by the Bengals, then we keep searching.

We will see tomorrow if we sign Golden, cannot watch the Irish/Buckeyes game tonight unless I go to a bar as I don't have espn dang it all.

But the Buckeyes will be a tough Offense for Golden to slow down with Jeremiah Smith.

Cannot play too much Man coverage against the Buckeyes or they can really hurt you.

I have a request for the OP.

Could you change the title? I know a question mark at end but each time the thread gets back to the top I think we have hired a new DC.

Maybe something, who do you want for our next DC?

For me being a non-expert, I hope they choose a guy who can transform our defense the same way the KC defense became a huge part of them winning the past 2 years.

2024 may go on record as one of most underperforming teams in Bengal history. Bengal's FO has major work to do on defensive side of the ball. I say tag and trade Tee Higgins in 2025 to start with the rebuild.

The longer this goes on and the lack of interviews leads me to believe that it's Golden with Lindsay Ghram as a backup if Golden somehow doesn't commit. But I believe it's going to be Golden.

No doubt, we were better. But we were never elite under Lou. They performed better in the playoffs in seemed. I think KC defensive improvement fueled their recent success, Mahomes and the KC offense was not close to elite in my humble opinion.
