Nice! They had to land another OF and Hays had been solid prior to last year, with a 2.4 or better WAR from '21-'23. Plus, he instantly makes the OF defense better.

Yea. The reason I preferred Grichuk is because he was coming off of a better season than Hays, but they are similar across their careers offensively. Both smash LHP and offer above average offense overall. But, as you said, Hays is a better defender with a stronger arm.

And, even with a down year last year, Hays was still an average hitter with an OPS+ of 101. If that's his floor and he could be as good as his 114, 105 or 107 OPS+ seasons from 2021 to 2023, that's an upgrade across the board for our OF.

If we put him in a straight up platoon with Fraley, that's a career 114 OPS+ against LHP (Hays) and career 113 OPS+ against RHP (Fraley) position.

And Hays, while not ideal vs RHP, has a career 93 OPS+ vs RHP, so he isn't an automatic out when out of his platoon either :).

Overall, a really good signing. I think this turns a decent off season into a good (or maybe even a "very good") off season.

I'm with you...I think this has been a good offseason. No, we didn't land a big name or a big-time power hitter, but Krall made smart baseball moves with the money he had to work with. I think he deserves some credit, and I think he'll still be looking to add at least one arm to bullpen.

Sounds like a good bounceback guy.

The Locked on Guys were talking about them looking into 3rd basemen via trade. This was before the Hays deal was announced, but it might be something to keep an eye on. Not sure who they'd look at, but personally I thin Elly would be a great 3b. Only question would be whether McClain is healthy enough to play short. Not likely to happen, though.

The Cincinnati Reds are going to be bringing back left-handed pitcher Wade Miley for the 2025 season. Miley, who pitched for the Reds in 2020 and 2021 has agreed to a minor league deal with Cincinnati according to Gordon Wittenmyer of the Cincinnati Enquirer.

The deal can be worth up to 4m depending on how many innings he can get at the major league level.

Oh cool. I saw this announced in Twitter but I didn't know they sent money with him. That makes the deal even better.

As far as Braxton Roxby, I had never heard of him. I checked and he wasn't on our top 30 list of prospects, so this seems like the Giants just needed to dump some salary.

Getting a quality left handed reliever for, essentially, nothing is pretty cool.

Sounds like Reds and White Sox have been in talks over Luis Robert Jr although him being traded before spring training is unlikely.
