Why's The Super Bowl At 6:30?
#1
Mods, sorry if this is in the wrong forum, but I figured it fits here since we'll be playing in multiple Super Bowls in the future.

Why's the Super Bowl at 6:30?!

I realize that most people have to work Monday morning, but a ton of people call in sick or come in late anyways, and that also means that it's in the afternoon on the west coast.

I'm sure they have all the analytics figured out and this time makes the most money, but how does that make sense?

Because it's only 3:30 at that time on the West Coast, and most people have to work tomorrow.

Because they mess around for about 30 minutes prior to the alleged "kickoff" time because apparently kickoff times don't mean the ball is actually getting kicked off then in the NFL anymore, and they need it to be early enough that they can fit in 2.5 hours of the all-important commercials around the incidental football game.

Even with a 6:30 "kickoff" the game won't likely end until after 10pm.

Sunset; it is strange waking up in LA on Sunday morning and live NFL games are on at 10AM. What is worse is having to watch soccer at 1PM, during NFL season, when local NFL Teams are not playing or the game is blocked. MNF is on at 5PM.

Brad; I say to heck with the west coaster, watching NFL games while eating their breakfast burritos and drinking their soy lattes. That is just blasphemous. Play the SB at 4PM EST!!!

The weirdest experience I had was watching the Redskins-Broncos SB from Honolulu at 2PM, in Jan '88.

Yeah. I wasn't even thinking about halftime and everything else.

I'm guessing that another thing is a lot of parents go to Super Bowl parties and need to bring their kids, and the kids obviously need to be in bed early, even if the parents can stay up a bit longer than usual for the game.

Likely why most SB parties in the Eastern time zone are pretty much over at half time.

Good to hear, and 24-0 now, but after "Atlanta 28, NE 3," I'm going to hold off on the confetti for now.

I hope they're humiliated.

he's not burrow. if you give burrow what mahomes has been given. better D coordinator head coach and a better FO. burrow would already have as many superbowls mahomes does. getting drafted to who you're drafted matters. and it's infuriating. burrow is clearly the best QB with the best WR's in the league. he should not need help but the bengals fail him at every turn.

One of these years the NFL will realize how much revenue they lose by having the Super Bowl on a Sunday instead of having it on Saturday where people don't have to go to work the next day.

Very true but I think the whole Super Bowl Sunday is too iconic (in their minds) to change.

They don’t lose money because of the Sunday time. If the game was on Saturday people will be leaving town on Sunday. With this schedule, they have all day on Saturday for events in the game city. Host cities prefer Sunday too People will eat in restaurants and drink in bars on Friday and Saturday. And they sell out the hotels on Sunday night.

Sunday is the traditional game day for the NFL and still is for the majority of the games. If they were to change the date of the Championship to Saturday, the phrase "any given Sunday" would quickly lose any and all relevance.
