#21
https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/player/_/id/91088/ryan-rehkow

Rehkow contract. Only 960,000 cap hit for 2025 and over 1 million for 2026

We have 49.3 million includes his cap hit.

I know its beating a dead horse, but this team can really reset their roster by releasing the bigger FA's that absolutely bring nothing to the table anymore.

1. Rankins, Hubbard, Cappa, Volson and Moss are no brainers. @ 33 million

2. Stone, Pratt, I can live with, and I trust Golden has a plan for these guys.

That gives us @ 80 million to fill holes via FA and the draft, not counting any JoeyB restructure. Like others I look to fill holes via known commodities.

Ours: (Big) (Small)

1. Trey, Chase, Gesicki, and Tee.

Backup/Depth

- Ossai (DE), Ford (G/T), Adomitus (LS), Herbert (RB), Bachie (ST) and Wilson(CB). I let everyone else walk and draft for the future.

Free Agents:

1) James Daniels(Pit) and Greg Van Roten(NYG) - Guards, we upgrade the IOL and draft 1 also, Van Roten is depth

2) Levi Onwuzurike (Lions) and draft 1

3) Derrick Barnett(Hou) DE

4) Jordan Fuller (Car) S and draft 1

- This upgrades both trenches, and frees up the draft for S, LB, WR, DT, OL and RB

It's pretty simple regarding Tee. He's going to get more than the most recent top #2, which is Jalen Waddle. He makes $28M APY. You can talk injuries and all that BS but it's about what the market bears. Chase is in line for 40M per and Tee is in line for 28M bare minimum. More than likely 30M.

It's not about the APY because that's never the cap hit number. It's about structure and doing what you can to make sure the hit isn't massive any single year. If you wanna play like the big boys, you gotta pay like the big boys. Figure out how to get these contracts done in ways you've resisted before. Or simply STFU and just say 'we can't afford all this' and go back to being a nothing franchise.

Great point about average per year (APY), many don't realize the cap number based on cash needed at signing and not overall contract that is not guaranteed. The dillemma for the Bengals with Tee is first they must decide, is Tee woth 29 or 30 million per year with his injury history. Bengals have planty of cap space to sign him, but do they value him over possible signing 2 great OG's for the same 29 to 30 million. Then use cuts for the guys you mentioned to shore up the DL and WR2.

I think the team has a huge decision to make. They will spend the money, how is best way to spend it. Can they tag Tee and trade him for multiple picks in 2025 including a possible 1st round to a team like Pats, Commandors, Broncos or others? I have been back and forth, but I feel for 28 to 30 million APY, we are better served to use the money to shore up 2 positions and then with the added picks, shore up the future with team friendly draft paicks who can develop into great starters in net couple of years. That would be following the KC model and what they did with Tyrek Hill.

As usual, I like a lot of your thoughts Schroomy. I think we would be a contender again if we did these moves and the new coaches turn
out to be upgrades. Releasing those players that bring nothing to the table actually gives us a lot of money to work with which is the good
news about all of this. Sucks that the moves we made last year were so bad, but going into this year we can really make up for them.

Been wanting James Daniels in stripes for a while, if I have a bit of a critique about this it is Van Roten as we need a starter more than
another depth piece. Getting Van Roten means we would still need to draft a Guard early and I want one of the DT's in the first in Walter
Nolen or Kenneth Grant. Daniels and Will Fries would free up the Draft big time.

Rankins is cut, we now have 60 million in cap space.

I don't think they cost themselves that much.

If you remember the interview with him he said he was looking to beat Justin's deal - and not by a few dollars.

Again, that was before the triple crown. The most recent reports are saying he’s looking for $40 million.

I didn't want to believe this but I think you're right. If the choice is between keeping Higgins or landing Poona Ford and a tier 2 guard...it makes you think. They could even make a play on Trey Smith and a tier 2 or 3 DT for that money.

It’ll be a travesty if we come out this draft with 1 dlineman.

Nah. If it comes to that, just tag Tee. Or Chase next year. Or cut some combo of Pratt, Stone, McPherson (post June 1), Sample, & Burton.

1 of Pratt/Stone + 1 of Sample/Mac + Burton yields right around $10 mil.

Depends on how FA goes. But I'd bet on 2 of our first 4 picks being D-line. Maybe 3. 1 DT, 1 DE/Edge + maybe a 2nd DT. If the 2nd DT is a NT type, we might could wait until Rd5.

Not getting Chase’s deal done ASAP would be incredibly stupid. And another huge distraction. I sure hope they learned their lesson on that.
