EDLC starts off season blasting out two taters. It's not so much that I want him to hit 60 HR's a year. I'd rather see him raise that batting average, cut way down on those 218 strike out's last season. Become a smarter batter and getting more RBI's.
Anyways, nice start to spring training for him.

HRs from both sides of the plate. I'm not ready to give up on his right handed hitting yet. Let's see what a year of Francona does for him. He's mostly still just a lump of clay waiting to be formed.

Elly with a line shot hitting right handed for a ground rule double over the CF's head and a solo shot left handed.
It's early in Spring Training so the pitchers aren't really pushing it right now but it appears that he's already done some work with his swing. It's quicker with less of the long, looping swing that handicapped him last season. He's probably still going to have a lot of strikeouts but I'll bet his total will be significantly lower this year.
And Matt McLain is a stud. Line drive double to start the game, a shot down the LF line for another double and a no doubter HR. Encarnacion-Strand added a deep solo shot. Having both of them for a full year would be HUGE for this team. Francona told Elly the he wants him to be the best player in MLB on the best team in MLB. Having McLain and CES healthy will go a long way in making that happen.
