Anyone doubting Cappa shoud be cut needs to look at his 2023 and 2024 season. He was also not a great run blocker. Time to find his replacement at right gurad. Who else needs to go post draft or if we sign a FA replacement?
Cincinnati Bengals
RG Alex Cappa
Cappa was the first big post-Super Bowl LVI addition the Bengals made to boost their offensive line. However, Cappa has struggled the past two years. In 2024, Cappa ranked last (64th) among qualifying players in pass block win rate as a guard, according to NFL Next Gen Stats. The year before that, he was 60th out of 62. By moving on from Cappa, the Bengals would save $8 million in salary cap space while incurring $2 million in dead cap. -- Ben Baby

I'm fine with cutting both Cappa and Volson and trying to draft or bring in an FA to replace them. If we can only do one or the other, I'm assuming we re-sign Cody Ford anyway, and we could see what Cochran could do at Guard.

Volson makes backup money. We don't really save anything cutting him prior to the draft.
Cappa, we save a lot of money to add to our 2025 cap and put towards a very good vet.

Yeah, no point in cutting Volson, leave him as depth, bring in a couple Guards in FA for Peters to work with and cut Cappa.
Lots of good options in FA this year at Guard, Trey Smith, Becton, Will Fries, James Daniels, Tevin Jenkins etc.

Volson should stay as cheap backup depth. Maybe the new o line coach can develop him further. Cappa I’m sure is gone. Smith will be tagged by kc

Agree, don't really want Trey Smith that much anyways after how terrible he was in the Playoffs and Super Bowl.
Would rather have 2 Guards in FA than just Trey Smith anyways. Give me Becton and Will Fries in FA.

I’m expecting the Masters of the Cap, the Philadelphia Eagles to find a way to keep Becton as well. No way they let him hit free agency, especially with other questions along their line with late season injuries / off season surgeries. This free agency guard market isn’t going to be as deep with bonafide talent as some hoped, I fear. I sure hope the Bengals pounce EARLY on a starting tier Guard before they’re stuck buying reclamation projects or keeping the status quo.

I would not be surprised if Eagles attempt to sign him. The question becomes what is the number of dollars an years to do it? Also, does he want to see in FA if he get back to being a tackle which pays a lot more. I am guessing he gets around 50 milllion for 4 years as a guard.

Becton WAS a reclamation project though. He sat on the market forever last year too. Our moronic FO sat on their hands.

Eagles saw him as a guard, Bengals and other NFL teams saw him as a bad OT.

That's why the Eagles just won the Super Bowl, and we can't even get our best players extended in a timely (and less expensive) manner. The guy had a first round pedigree and flamed out. Get him in camp on the cheap, and see what you can do with him. Not like this team hasn't drafted a tackle with the idea of playing him at guard either.

Our former OL coach didn't have the vision to picture him at Guard.

Volson makes $3.7 mil. More than some starters: Chase Brown, D. Sample, Iosivas, Mims, Dax Hill, and Battle. And guys who are starters atm like Turner, Jenkins and Jackson. We save more on a Volson cut than Moss. He only makes a couple 100k less than CTB and Dax Hill.
Volson is the 14th highest paid player on the team and would be the 2nd highest paid backup to Moss. But we save more by cutting him.

Volson was a late 4th round draft pick and signed a 4 year contract that payed him an average of 1,079,221 per season . Im not sure how his 4th year cap hit is being figured at 3.7 million. I know the NFL has a Performance-Based Pay program but a 3.7 million cap hit for 2025? I dont understand that one.
