Dre’Mont Jones released by Seattle
#1
could be worth a look if Hill not brought back.   His PFF grades for 2023 and 2024 were 61.7 and 54.3, respectively.

Worth a look if we do lose BJ that is for sure, but don't like his grades going down...

You ideally want a starting DT with a rating better than 54.3.

I’d agree.  I’m thinking more of a rotational piece and veteran experience.

We tried that guy, his name was Sheldon Rankins.

Volson is meh, but I like him, and he has far exceeded my expectations

DJ has put up 3.5 sacks or more every year in his 6-year NFL career.
He may be a decent vet rotational guy if they can find a spot for him in Golden's offense defense.
He's kind of a tweener at 6'3", 281 lbs.
And it looks like he hasn't played DT since his rookie year?
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. Ended 9-8 but barely missed playoffs

Changes needed to do better in Sept/Oct moving forward.

Sorry for Party Rocking!

Damn he’s running the offense too?
You can go to live in France, but you cannot become a Frenchman. You can go to live in Germany or Turkey or Japan, but you cannot become a German, a Turk, or a Japanese. But anyone, from any corner of the Earth, can come to live in America and become an American

Rather draft a young DT early and let them play than sign a guy whose already dropping off.

So you would be against signing any veteran dl since rankins was a bust?

I would assume the thought was still draft a DT since they need to replace Rankins, Hill, and Carter on the depth chart.
Only Jenkins and Jackson right now.
They'll need multiple more.

Would someone like Jones in addition to Kenneth Grant in Rd 1 plus Riley Mills around Rd 4-5 be enough to bolster that DL?

No, if the guy had a better average production, I'd entertain the thought.  But from what I'm seeing on his career stats, we're likely better off sticking with BJ Hill. Hill has a much higher tackle count and about the same sack production.

Well in that case I’m glad I said he could be worth a look and not a guy we should definitely sign

Yeah looks like just another guy and not really big enough or productive enough for what the Bengals need at DT.

Adams got released by the Jets. They could trade Tee for a second rounder and sign Adams for less than Higgins. They’d have a very good number 2, more cap space and an extra pick.
Not gonna happen because he will go whenever Rogers ends up and he’s 32 but hey it could work for a couple of years.

Those two have likely had a conversation or two about, "Damn bro, we had a good thing going in GB. Too bad we both got greedy and screwed it up".

I don't think Rogers had much choice. This time he was Brett Favre and Jordan Love was waiting in the wings

Adam Butler DT 5 sacks each season for the last 2 years good against the run he's 30 and spotrac has him at 2.9 million value....that is cheap production.

His total tackles this year was a serious anomaly compared to the rest of his career. I think that I'd prefer that they just re-sign BJ Hill.

I think the most likely 1st round scenario is still DT. Why?

1) Along with OG, it is our most glaring need.

2) We only have 2 DTs on the roster, both of whom look like rotational guys, not starters.

3) So we likely need 2 starter level guys + a rotational guy for the 5th DT.

4) Aside from Mason Graham, we'll likely have the pick of the litter on DT's at #17: Nolen, Harmon, Grant, etc. I mean, I don't think we are locked in to DT Rd1, but I'd be shocked if we don't take at least 1 before the end of Day 2, and another on Day 3 would not surprise me.

I look at the top picks, atm, as DT + DE + a wild card BPA somewhere.

But I think at least one starter level vet DT in FA is a must. Be it BJ, a vet like Calais Campbell, Poona Ford or Tart, etc. A vet +

BJ  Hill is gonna get 10m/yr I'd rather have the other guy for 2 yrs and say 4 or 5 million and use that other money someplace else. I like Hill but once they reach 30 the bengals dont pay big money deals as you know.
