1) Along with OG, it is our most glaring need.
2) We only have 2 DTs on the roster, both of whom look like rotational guys, not starters.
3) So we likely need 2 starter level guys + a rotational guy for the 5th DT.
4) Aside from Mason Graham, we'll likely have the pick of the litter on DT's at #17: Nolen, Harmon, Grant, etc. I mean, I don't think we are locked in to DT Rd1, but I'd be shocked if we don't take at least 1 before the end of Day 2, and another on Day 3 would not surprise me.
I look at the top picks, atm, as DT + DE + a wild card BPA somewhere.
But I think at least one starter level vet DT in FA is a must. Be it BJ, a vet like Calais Campbell, Poona Ford or Tart, etc. A vet +
The verdict is still out on Jackson and Jenkins. None of that is decided after their rookie years in a fkd up season.

BJ is going to get $10M because he's worth $10M, and that's not a bad price for a decent DT. If you watch him play, he doesn't take downs off, he's a high motor guy. I can't imagine what his stats would be like if he didn't have to chase guys like Lamar Jackson around the field the whole game several times per year. If you really want proof of Hill's value, go back and watch the Raven's games this past season. Hill looks like he's in fast forward in pursuit, while the much younger and "faster" Myles Murphy looks like he's running in molasses.
Volson is meh, but I like him, and he has far exceeded my expectations

This is exactly why I think they will try hard to get Higgins signed and maybe trade Trey or let him play out his contract.
Hendrickson is more valuable and more of a need for them right now but age always plays a huge role in who they give their $ to.
Trey is 4 years older than Tee. I think Trey will still be very productive for at least 2 more years but between him and the 2 WRs I think he is the least likely to be extended this offseason.

I'm not disagreeing with you on Hill and his value I'm just not sure they will pay it.

I totally agree and I think a team would give us solid value for Trey in a trade as well.

I've literally never heard of this dude lol, but good to know of a cheap, under-the-radar option.
If the Bengals add a DL, I think they will be under 30 years old.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. Ended 9-8 but barely missed playoffs
Changes needed to do better in Sept/Oct moving forward.

22 sacks his last 5 seasons so he's good for 4 or 5 sacks a season. His PFF is not the best but in a rotation he would be ok for depth.

His rush defense grade isnt very good. If we had no other option maybe but he wouldnt be my 1st choice or even 2nd choice. He would be one step above bringing Lawrence Guy back.

He wouldn't be my top choice either but on the backend of the roster for depth and price possibly. Personally I hope we draft CJ West.

I wouldn't call Rankins a bust. He contracted viral meningitis. That's more of a fluke than a bust. Who knows how well he would have played for us if he was healthy once we got some rotation on the line. Seems like the Texans are hot to pick him up.

Philly didn't tag Milton Williams, bringing that dude in makes us better, but also poorer. He's expected to command around $18Mil/yr @ 4-years. But that is less than we paid Sheldon and Hill combined. Tell me we're going into the season w/ Williams/Jenkins/Jackson and a mid-rounder like Stackhouse outta UNC and I'm ready to roll.

Him with a couple draft picks along with Jenkins and Jackson may suffice for a bolstered DT room, but he is turning 31 in a month, so I can't see Bengals signing him to more than a 1-year deal just to help bridge gap while these young guys develop some.

Milton Williams would give you more production than either Rankins or Hill in the pass rush department. Run defense he is worse than Hill. Of course Williams is only 25 coming off his rookie contract so he could get better. I think he would be a good option if we could land him at 18 million per year. That Philly defense was the best in the NFL so its hard to know how much of Williams production was related to the talent he was surrounded with.

Well if they don’t bring back hill, and with rankins cut and Hubbard retired, they’d have the money to add this type of contract. I guess that some what depends on what the big 3 of our own end up getting. But with Trey extended, Williams in paired with a rookie edge drafted this year and Jenkins and Jackson last this wouldn’t be an outrageous rotation cost wise.
I do think they need to sign at least one dl, edge, guard or cb as an outside free agent. This is in addition to bringing back our guys or that’s just more holes to fill in the draft.

Milton is not as good of a run stopper as BJ but a better pass rusher. With the cutting of Rankins and the retiring of Sam we need to bring in a
couple DL for sure. I just wonder if Milton benefited from all that talent on the Eagles DL, it happens.

I'm sure he did that's why teams are gonna have to be careful and really watch his tape and see what they think.

For sure. But I liked Milton in college even, I think he would be a good get for us if BJ leaves, he is still young.

If the price is right indeed. BJ is 30 I don't think they'll pay him 10/yr even tho he's probably worth it.

How about Trey Hendrickson for Jonathan Allen and some draft compensation?
