Didn't watch enough to know anything about them but there are differences in schemes. Two years ago they were a 3-4 with him playing a 0 technique I believe and last year they moved to a 4-3 with him playing a 1. From what I can see about their scheme they shoot gaps so my guess is part of their run defense issues did occur at the second level but would need to watch tape.

Why is his PFF run grade a 45.0 if he is so good stopping the run. Seems like there is a disconnect somewhere.

PFF and trench play are not things I ever, and will ever, trust.

Good to know. Seems like he’s a better fit for a 4-3 then.
I don’t watch the packers much but the games I have watched they suck against the run. And the rankings back that up. This year they were better though.
I don’t know enough about this guy to make a good judgement. Hopefully he works out. Does seem like a steep price so he better be the answer.
Looks like DT isn’t a dire need in the bengals eyes come draft time with having invested in 2 FAs already and 2 draft picks last year.
Seems like edge is the most likely 1st pick.

I feel ya, and a 2 year deal is probably in line. Buys time to find an actual real replacement if he can come in and even play at an average level.
His average is better than most of our IOL when/if they have an above average day.

Well, I still think that is a big overpay, but if Nate likes it and that is an impressive stat, I will bump it to a C+.
NT: Jackson & Slaton
DT: Hill & Jenkins
Draft a pass rushing DT.

I am seein stats elsewhere that the Packers allowed 1 YPC less with him on the field.
Like ya'll said, looks like a very good one dimensional run stuffer. If he can deliver that here, that is a good signing.
I fully retract my PFF based F.

Could've paid more for a player like Ford. They needed a nose to rotate in off the bench so doesn't seem terrible. But it doesn't seem optimal either. Did they fall in love with BJ Hill and kept him too long/overpaid? That seems like what happened.

Why do people still take PFF seriously?
This is the 3rd time I've written this today: cutups and evals on Twitter show a VASTLY different player than these, "grades."

The same things were said last year in regards to Rankins. PFF didn't have him ranked all that high. People swore he was a great pass rusher because of his ESPN pass rush win rate. We saw firsthand he wasn't a great pass rusher.

Would like to see them bring Ossai back or another pass rusher.
Would like to see a guard signed as well.
Need to beef up.

We gotta stop with the grades.
Look at players efficiency numbers, not subjective grading crap.
If you want to add the grades to a better metric, fine. Just don't hold it above anything else.

Rankins was seen as a Hill type DT. They didn’t address NT because I assume lack of options in FA. Obviously having two rotational DTs as your starters was not a good plan. They have much more depth this year with the draft picks and these two signings.
Still could be better. They don’t have a dominant force like they had with Reader. But they should be better on paper.
