Welcome Oren Banks former reserve Eagles linebacker. 2years/5M

PFF grades are pretty solid for everything but pass rushing

Seems like a direct replacement for ADG. Probably gonna come right in and start in our new commitment to 4-3 as our base defense

Was behind Dean and all the comments from Eagles fans i saw was that he did a great job when he was called upon and they aren’t happy he’s gone

I remember liking Oren Burks coming out of Vandy back in 2018, but I hadn't really seen his name much since then.
Fine depth pickup I guess. We'll see if he gets a more prominent role in Golden's defense.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. Ended 9-8 but barely missed playoffs

Changes needed to do better in Sept/Oct moving forward.

Sorry for Party Rocking!

I was a Oren Burks fan when he was coming out of Vandy. Converted safety that needed a couple years to get bigger and reps at LB. He got some playing time in San Francisco and Philadelphia but was playing behind some of the leagues best. Another solid piece rotational guy/backup so honestly he still doesn't move the needle much. They are starting to fill out the roster though I guess...

Edit: ADG was just signed by the Cards for double Burks contract. Definitely a small win for the Bengals here.

So keeping score, we have signed 3 FA's thus far and had 1 FA leave.

It is not like we have a chance at compemsatory picks so maybe no need keeing score.  Smirk

We have Hilton, but it does. not appear we will lose any big contracts to FA in 2025. So carry on Bengals and sign great replacements for the one we cut or retired.

Idk, I'm not really going to miss him all that much. What I remember best about him from this past season is that when we needed him to step up off the bench and fill in for the injured Logan Wilson, not only did ADG look puny in the role, but he gave up a few penalties that allowed drives to continue.

Volson is meh, but I like him, and he has far exceeded my expectations

We should probably sign some people to start so these guys have someone to fill in for when necessary.

Owen is one of those players where you know they are a capable reserve and have reason to suspect they may be an effective starter. He had to step in and start in Philly when the starter was injured and played at a high level over several games.

“Bengals agree to terms with former Eagles LB Oren Burks

Cincinnati values players who play their best in the biggest games. Perhaps that's why Oren Burks will be in stripes. He agreed to terms on a two-year, $5 million deal on Monday and will enter the equation to start next to Logan Wilson. Burks enjoyed an incredible playoff run last year, filling in for the injured Nakobe Dean for the Eagles. In three games, he racked up 25 tackles, three for a loss, two forced fumbles and a pass defensed. Before that run, he was a journeyman; this will mark his fourth team in the last five seasons. But the Bengals feel they might be tapping into something even as Burks turns 30 in two weeks. Last year's starting linebacker Germaine Pratt has requested a trade and is expected to be released if he can't fetch a pick. This move helps grease the wheels on that transaction.”

The Eagles also have an amazing defensive line in front of him. That helps LBs so much.

Weird signing. 30-year-old career backup LB?

That seems like the type of guy who you sign in like Week 3 of FA, for barely over vet minimum, not Day 1 of the tampering period for more than twice the vet minimum.

Was thinking the same, getting hints of Geno Stone, but at a far more reasonable price., so worth the risk.

Just don't like people calling him a starter already, hoping it is smoke and mirrors.

This Eagles LB played well as Eagles dominated Chiefs in Super Bowl.  Banks made a bunch of tackles in Super Bowl.  So he is more than good enough to help Bengals awful Defense, as is Packers big DT Slaton added also....Give Golden some players to try to fix one of worst defenses in NFL, and help out Burrow with giving up less points.
