Appears Becton not an option

Why the hell would we want the guy that was absolutely mauling people on the way to a ring? Psh.

They may have decided if they were going to pay 18 to 20 million for a guard, it was Joe Thuney who they traded for and then a lesser price guard who they also traded to get.

Possibly, though they would have to "kick the tires" to know that and it doesn't sound like they made it to even that stage.

I like the sound of Luke Kandra in particular. Doesn’t give up much pressure (under 2% pressure rate) and only gave up 2 penalties in his entire college career. Being local and a team captain which they love the Bengals should be well aware of him.

Nice thoughts. Risner would be fine with me as well. I know nothing about Kandra? What college did he play at again?

Yep and they traded for another Guard as well. Maybe Teven is hurt right now or something and that is why the Bears wanted to move
on from him and this is also stalling talks with the Bengals. Have to be able to work him out before we sign him.

Cannot just say, he was on the Bears and their OL sucked. Another reason to sign him is he is still young as you note.

Jenkins is a top 20 guard when healthy. PFF has him 18th of 135 and top 20 in both pass pro and run block.

Volson? 78th out of 135. 52nd run block, 96th pass block.

Ford, who played mostly at OT last year, graded out at 112/141 at OT. 121st at run block and  110th in pass block.

Jenkins is a large upgrade to either. So is Scherff.

Also the minute they acquired Thuney they acquired his huge cap hit.

Hand usage is a big thing.

The ultimate irony would be we start over at Guard cutting Volson. He gets picked up by someone who notices the flaw in his game (he sets too high) and this time Volson listens. He then becomes a top Guard. Of course our fans would then blame the Bengals instead of understanding it took a particular coach to get Volson to listen.

Let's hope Peters has already identiied his flaw(s).

Or. He just sucks, no matter the scenario.

Which he does.

It's always the F.O. in some way, if it's a bad coach...who hired him? Seems the F.O. is waaay too loyal to waaay too many people they employ. A guy named Marvin comes to mind.

Volson is actually our second most athletic OL behind Mims. But yeah, he stinks.

I have never said any pro athlete lacks atleticism or stinks. The dude could bench press me 100 times.

But it is possible he is not as good of a pro as he was in college.

I'll say it. Once again, he stinks and lacks athleticism

Luke Kandra plays for the u of Cincinnati bearcats.  Followed the head coach satterfield from Louisville.  Did pretty well on the bench at the combine.  As a bit of a uc homer would love to him in stripes

The post was about irony and how our fans always assume fault on our team. I agree Volson needs to either go outright or just be a reserve ESPECIALLY because his big issue is something he could fix - and sometimes he HAS set low and that's when you see his scores jump and he looks decent. Then for some reason it wears off and he's back to setting too high again and thus defenders get into his chest and he loses anchor. Ford is less athletic than Volson but he sets low properly and as a result is more effective (not great but he anchors decently).

Thanks BenZoo. I figured since he said he was a local he would of went to OSU or was a Bearcat. Good to know. Going to have to check
out some Luke Kandra film.

That's not what I'm saying.

It's just a red flag when a team has a young guard that is supposedly good and they would rather trade for two other older guards than keep him.

If the young guard were any good most teams would want to keep them if they have the cap space the Bears have.

That's all I'm saying. I don't expect him to be much more than an average guard at best if the Bears didn't want him with their line being so bad.

They added two guards and let Jenkins walk as he wasn't a part of their long-term plans, obviously.
It's just a little suspicious.

He could be great. The Bears could have no clue what they are doing. You never know.

In a situation like this I would be more willing to bet that they see him as an average guard and they see Thuney as the greatest in the NFL and the other guard they added as at least above average.

Something else to think about is Jenkins was not heavily pursued and signed right away in the FA frenzy. Maybe teams don't think he's elite.

I'm just managing my expectations here.

Maybe they hold Volson in high regard, who knows. Zeitler's 35 but he’s played 15 or more games every season since 2015... tought we were going to give him another chance.
