Moss restructures final year of contract
#21
Didn't we sign Perine to fill his role? I don't understand the logic behind this at all.

Jessie Bates left the Bengals and that makes me sad!

Guess that means don't look for them to take a RB in the draft at all.

I still expect a Day 3 running back because its a deep RB class but not a deep day 3 draft. I can see a world where Perine and Moss are competing for that Pass Blocking RB spot the Bengals need and one of them ends up cut. We don't have numbers on the Moss reworked deal but Perine is only a 200k dead cap hit in 25 & 26.

Moss is an upper tier pass blocking back, and we saw that last year before the injury. He is a back who makes his living running inside and with the way our Guard play imploded last year no one looked good running inside.

Chase Brown, in the same offense, averaged 1 YPC higher.

Surely even a Day 3 rookie can do just as well, right?

Yep

I was hoping they were going to cut Moss and take a late RB pick.

Don't like it. Zack Moss was supposed to be a great pass protector and he wasn't even good at it last season before he went down.

We can do better, this Draft has tons of talent at RB and I was hoping to take a RB mid to late, but this might make this not happen.

Could be they will cut him if they get their RB pick in the draft or on cutdown day.

If he was being signed to start and get the lion's share, I don't like it either, but we know he won't do that, so I'm indifferent.

Let's look at the team Perine played for in 2024.

Pacheco
Hunt
Perrine

They used all and 3 in the playoffs

Do you have some data to back up the bolded claim?

I get some fans don't like it or hate it, but they are executing a plan.

This draft class doesn't seem to have much to offer. Only a handful of picks! Ts, the one thing it does have to offer is that it is deep at RB and TE. They probably weren't going to draft a RB to begin with.

I think they go the UDFA path for those positions. Tbh, they have a decent chance of hitting on an UDFA or two this year. Particularly where those two positions are concerned. Both Sample and Moss are replaceable.

I disagree. It is a deep draft class. Just not sparkling at the top. The draft ncks at ESPN say it is a really strong PFA/USFA class, and 350+ guys have draftable grades.

I'm actually ok with this as it allows us not to have to pick a RB with one of our 6 picks. I think we can land a solid RB via the UDFA route and use the pick on defense.

RB room:

1) Chase Brown
2) Zack Moss
3) Samaji Perine
4) UDFA

- I think its still pretty solid.

If they go back to splitting carries between Moss and Chase Brown, massive thumbs down. Otherwise he should be the primary backup at best.

Having another good pass protector is not a bad thing. And if they actually do fix OG then both Moss and Perine will look a lot more effective as they run inside and the implosion at Guard last year really killed us running inside.

Peter Quill:
I have a plan.

Rocket Raccoon:
You've got a plan? Okay, first of all, you're copying me from when I said I had a plan.
Peter Quill:
I'm not copying you, I have a plan - that's not that unique of a thing to say.

Rocket Raccoon:
And secondly, I don't think you even have a plan.

Peter Quill:
I have... part of a plan.

Drax the Destroyer:
What percentage of a plan do you have?

Peter Quill:
I dunno... Twelve percent?
Rocket Raccoon:
Twelve percent? [Rocket breaks into raucous laughter]

Peter Quill:
That's a fake laugh.

Rocket Raccoon:
It's real!

Peter Quill:
Totally fake!

Rocket Raccoon:
That is the most real, authentic, hysterical laugh of my entire life, because that is not a plan!

Gamora:
It's barely a concept.

Peter Quill:
You're taking their side?

Groot:
I am Groot.

I agree with you, actually! I was just short with my wording. It's a meat and potatoes draft, with very little steak or lobster.  I meant that Cincy doesn't have many picks. However, I was just reading that Duke is willing and would like to acquire more picks. It mentioned that the moves would not be huge ones though.

They were all different type of RBs though. Moss and Perine do the same thing as 3rd backs.

Pretty much my thoughts as well. If we draft a RB, unless it's a big, power back for short yardage and goalline situations, I doubt they see the field all that much this year. Especially if we don't draft a guard in the first 3 rounds.

Well I saw Moss get beat picking up the blitz a few times. Honestly Chase Brown I thought shown more effort and did a good job in pass pro.

No data, just my eyes.
