Clowney
#1
SO Jadaveon Clowney is available. Does anyone think he has anything left in the tank for a short-term deal? I thought he was done a couple of years ago, but he's still hanging around.

A good rotation piece, nothing more: his value has always been his run D, despite decent pass rushing numbers every year.

He's like how everyone is predicting Shemar to be and that isn't needed, IMO.

I was just thinking he might be a good pickup in case Stewart gets hurt. He's probably still better than Murphy or Sample at this point. I certainly wouldn't pay a lot for him.

Wouldn't be against Clowney. He still makes plays once in a while and would be decent insurance in case someone gets hurt or used in a
rotation to spell guys. Ossai will probably be our main pass rusher while Stewart learns some new technical moves. But I expect Stewart
to start on running downs as he is probably our best run stopper right now which is wild for a rookie.

Expecting big growth from Murphy this year though and I bet the coaches do as well so I don't expect a Clowney signing.

Heard Scherff is being linked to us which I would love even if he is older, perfect Guard for our young ones to learn from.

I would say no to Clowney. He’s another year older and they have to see what Stewart/Ossai/Murphy can do.

If they are going to add someone add a G or S for sure.

The problem is what he thinks he should be paid vs what his production is actually worth.

For like $5-6 million a year I'd take him. I suspect he'd want more.

Some of it depends on if Trey is going to play. I've read other rumors that he's not going to report without a new contract.

I always share the same story when Clowney is mentioned. PK was interviewing a OLineman coming out of the SEC and asked him has he every encountered anyone who had the speed, power, movement of JC. Without hesitation the dude said Carlos Dunlap.

As to the OP; like most things depends on $,

He'd be like the Larry Ogonjobi piece of that 2021 run. Super underrated, but needed.

I think I would rather roll with the DE's we have and use the money to sign:

1) Trey to an extention.

2) a veteran S. ( Marcus Maye, Jordan Whitehead,) I just think we need more depth here, and allow Anderson to be the ST gunner.

Always curious/hesitant when a starter is constantly changing teams.

Calais Campbell in his late 30s becoming a 1-year guy makes sense as it didn't start until his age 37 season.
Clowney has been on 6 teams in 7 years (7 in 8 if he signs with someone else this season) in his age 25-31 seasons.

That's odd and it makes me wonder what is going on there behind the scenes.

I had all but given up but you made me interested, so I looked it up and a few stories from yesterday (my birthday) have him linked to us!

I haven't heard anything about him in a month or so, so this is great news.

I feel like he'd solidify our offensive line and our defense was terrible last year, and we still lost all but two of our games by a TD or less, so an improved offense would be able to make that up, but an improved defense makes us the favorites in the division and maybe the entire league, IMCO.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!

We’ve got so much cap space i don’t even care

If he has no pass rush juice i don’t see where he’d play

To my knowledge he isn’t used to kicking inside and we’ve got like 3 DES who should be above average to average at run D so idk how he’s find minutes

Happy Birthday Brad.

I think we could have significant improvement on Defense this year with the new Coaches and the youth. Trey back will be essential though, pay the man.

I will follow up on my previous comment of skepticism of something being wrong with him behind the scenes....

...if the FO isn't going to give Hendrickson the big extension I would rather they just trade him now before it becomes a proper distraction when preseason games are looming. THEN I would fully be on board signing Clowney, because while Clowney/Stewart/Murphy/Ossai/Sample is a shitty DE room, it's a slightly less shitty DE room than Stewart/Murphy/Ossai/Sample/C Johnson.

I agree with you. He's lost more than a step and hangs on in the NFL for his previous achievements. If he's interested in a backup/sub roll, I'm ok as long as the money is minimal. Very minimal, like the custodian in the stadium minimal.
