Reds July 2025 Thread
#1
Realized we were still in the June one.

We could be 5 games above .500 or 1 game above .500 at the end of today. That's a big potential swing heading into a series against the 50-35 Phillies, so it's a pretty important day.

Good job by Martinez of keeping the Reds in the game.

Absolute CRUSH by CES. Brantley said it best. He does great with the strikes . . . just learn to lay off of the pitches out of the zone.

Wow!

The Red Sox fell apart on defense.

Lots of lessons on display tonight. Hinds' hustle down the line pays off a couple of times . . . watch and learn young Reds players.

I've said it before, a fair ball on the ground with one or no outs and a runner on third . . . sometimes, even the routine ground balls can be a problem for the defense. Unearned runs are still runs.

Nice bounce back to salvage the series. Phillies, Marlins and Rockies coming up before the AS break. A chance to get higher on the + side. Let's do it!

If the rotations fall in place the way that they are scheduled . . . 7:10 Wednesday, July 9th @ GABP . . . Abbott vs Alcantara. That game might be 90 minutes.

The Reds lose the series, but are still only 1 1/2 games out of a wildcard.

Reds play at 1pm today at Phillies. Marte is back and in the starting lineup. Ashcraft also back. Vilade and Benschoter sent to Louisville.

If I didn't already know better, I'd say that the Reds are looking like a team that's learning how to play baseball.

There's replay getting it wrong again. He was out clear as day.

It wound up not mattering. Abbott gets into bases loaded, no outs and that play wound up being the only run scored. They got him in the first, but he's still Andrew F'n Abbott.

Almost ended up mattering this inning but they pulled a houdini and got out of it.

LOL at Bohm. How does he even think that wasn't a strike? Such a beautiful pitch!

Didn’t even look questionable. That was a sweat.

Cardinals get crushed in Chicago after getting completely shutout in Pittsburgh. The Reds are now only a half of a game behind the Cardinals and now(temporarily) only a game behind the Padres and the Giants for that last WC spot.

4rh place Reds . . . 7 .0 games out of 1st and  would be . . .
4th place in the AL East, 3.5 behind 1st place Toronto, 2.5 behind 3rd place New York/Tampa Bay and 2.5 ahead of Boston.
2nd place in the AL Central, 8.0 behind Detroit and 4.5 ahead of the Twins.
2nd place in the AL West, 6.5 behind Houston and a half of a game ahead of the Mariners who are beating Pittsburgh right now.
3rd place in the NL East, 5.0 behind 1st place Philadelphia, 4.0 behind 2nd place New York and 5.5 ahead of surging Miami who have just +overtaken Atlanta.
4th place in the NL West, 10.0 behind Los Angeles, 1.0 game behind SD/SF and 2.5 ahead of Arizona.

This is the last series of their "Tough run".

They were 25-26, just lost a series to the Pirates, going into the Cubs series where the bullpen blew two of the three games(Reds would be 3.0 behind the Cubs right now if they didn't implode in those two games). They are now 46-42, going 21-16 vs Cubs(L), Kansas City(W), Cubs(L) Milwaukee(L), Arizona(W-Sweep),Cleveland(W), Detroit(W and broke ridiculous "lose 1st game" streak), Minnesota(W), St Louis(L), New York Yankees(W), San Diego(W), Boston(L), Philadelphia(? 1-0)

Their last six series losses
Pittsburgh
Chicago
Chicago
Milwaukee
St Louis
Boston

Straighten out the division and this team is nudging those top teams in the league. It seems, weird, but it's true. Before that run above, the Reds lost consecutive series to Washington, Atlanta(3-1), Houston and the White Sox. Most young teams are very difficult to predict.

We're not particularly a young team, this isn't 2023 anymore. Trevino is 32, Steer is 27, Espinal is 30, Benson is 27, Friedl is 29, Fraley is 30, Lux is 27, Stephenson is 28, Hays is 29. We only have 3 batters with 100+ PA this year who are younger than 27.

The league average weighted batter age (weighted so a 22-year-old with 10 PA and a 28-year-old with 400 PA doesn't average out to 25 years old) is 28.1... we are at 27.5.
The league average weighted pitcher age is 29.3... we are at 29.5.

10th in batters, 18th in pitchers

We're fairly middle-of-the-pack overall.
