This QB class this year, like many of the recent drafts isn't that good.
Why trade Dalton in his prime? If he didn't break his thumb this year we would still be in the playoffs and he could have very easily won the MVP award.
We wouldn't have even played last week. Guarantee you that we would have had a bye.
MVP? I don't think that happens, however. Newton was too good with far less weapons all around. He's going to get the nod.

Who knows how things would've turned out had Oakland kept Hue and Carson? For that reason, I don't think Hue was an idiot to offer what he did. Look at Carson now.
How much is 7+ years of stability at the QB position worth? I'd say a lot. That's probably what Hue envisioned when he made that trade. That post-season press conference is what made the trade look so bad in hindsight, because it basically punched Hue and (eventually) Carson's tickets out of town.
You are correct.
Ask anyone with any football acumin who is not emotional about the topic would they give you Palmer for Gio and Dre in return, they would laugh you out of the room. It's not even a question. As you pointed out Hue did not get the opportunity to have the trade play out. Based on the actual performance of the players involved in the trade it's not even in question

McCarron also doesn't have the arm that Andy does, even if he could perform big in the clutch, which, as of right now, he hasn't done any better than Andy.
Use your head here....... you don't trade away your general at the top of his game.
Now, if you think that we should trade McCarron to them and see if we can maybe get a deal where we give them McCarron and a 6th or so for their second-round pick, then you might be on to something.
As I have stated throughout this thread I was just throwing it out there for discussion. I love Andy but I'm not sure he can get us to the Super Bowl. And I didn't say trade him for a 2nd round pick I said trade him for their #2 pick. We could get a difference maker for that.

The chance the bengals trade away their franchise QB is... 0%

Honestly, why would you trade to Cleveland to help them get better?

Plus you clear out how much $$ of cap space to hang onto our other FA guys.

I agree with you. He may have slightly overpaid, but he was trying to salvage the best season Oakland had in a decade. Also, look at how Palmer is playing. If Hue would have stayed, and Palmer gave the same level of production as he has had on Arizona, no one would question it.

I'd trade McCarron for Joe Haden straight up.
Anyway, I really wouldn't recommend trading with the Browns. Haven't you guys seen "Draft Day"??? They are really good at suckering other teams! No thank you!!

Joe Haden has a huge contract.. but yeah, probably since his signing bonus has already been paid. Not only would it keep Joe Haden from making AJ Green his prison ***** twice a year, but it'd also give the Bengals one heck of a #1 CB.
Then go steal Alex Mack in FA once he opts out of his contract and we can keep laughing at the Browns for taking most of their best players.

We have a better chance of the NFL disqualifying the Steelers from the playoffs and the Bengals winning the Super Bowl than of trading away Andy.

I think the Palmer trade is an oddity that is hard to properly value. I think the price the Raiders paid would have been a fair price for Carson Palmer the player if There hadn't been any weird circumstances. Carson refusing to play for the Bengals should have been worth a discount. I don't think they got one. Its a questionable move because they paid full market price in what should have been a fire sale, but they didn't necessarily overpay for the player they got.

They didn't overpay for Palmer until they canned Hue, his Palmer-friendly system, and then shipped Palmer off for a 6th round pick. And there is no "fire sale" when Mike Brown is involved, because he'd put winning an argument over anything but a ridiculous bounty. When Palmer was holding out I was thinking "Come on Mike, don't punish the guys who are staying, if someone offers a 2nd or somethign pull the trigger."
I don't know the insides of it, but I'd wager teams that weren't the Raiders offered something that Mike turned down.

Agreed. I think someone had to come in with a big offer or MB would have been perfectly fine letting him sit at home. I've always thought that both Carson and MB underestimated how stubborn the other is.

Haden had two or three concussions this year. He was out with them both times we played those guys. Might not have future impact but it might. If he's able to continue at a high level, I'd take him in a heartbeat.
Mack would be a major coup.
