Legalize Marijuana...Medicinal uses for NFL?

Bell's suspension reduced to 3 games....and he doesn't advance in the program, so his next failed test is 4 games instead of 10.

A real head scratcher.

Bell played hard ball about the NFL leaking the news of his skipped tests, so Goodell cut him a deal to keep him from suing the NFL League office for damages in civil court, in all likelihood.

I don't blame Bell for pushing the issue about the leak, and I'm surprised no other player has tried it before.  Still, imo, that shouldn't get his suspension reduced and especially shouldn't keep him from getting a strike.  He is a repeat offender, including a DWI, and missed multiple tests.  He did the crime, so he should serve the full suspension and get the strike, but he should get paid from the league for leaking his info.

The hidden issue is Goodell doesn't want the fact that his office has been leaking info for years to make him look bad, so he cut Bell a great deal to drop that part of the issue rather than have it be a constant source of negative PR until the case is resolved.

The big problem is that it sets a bad precedent.  Do whatever drugs you want, change your #, skip all your drug tests, then appeal for a reduced suspension and no strike.

No biggie. Snoop will hook him up before his next scheduled test and he'll either fail or skip again.

Please bear in mind physical dependence and addiction are two separate things.

And according the CDC, the number of deaths due to opioid analgesics in 2014 was 18,893. I don't know where you got your information there is no national standard for what is a narcotic, but there are medical standards on what a opioid analgesic is.

The attached link talks about the link between marijuana use and heart attacks, as well as tolerance to medical marijuana.  In some cases, using medical marijuana more than twice a month will result in increased tolerance.

The attached link talks about the %of medical marijuana users who are prescribed more than 5 g a day increasing 5% in one year's time.

OMG . . . you've got to be shitting me?

After reading through some of the first link and tracking the information to its sources, I assume you work in law enforcement, you haven't read or understand the source material, and you're only repeating what you have heard.

Okay, first link is a supplement site. It mentioned "case studies" note marijuana use prior to heart attacks. That doesn't prove a link between marijuana and heart attacks. It also mentioned increased systolic blood pressure and pulse. An OTC sudafed will do the same to BP and pulse.

Scroll down to tolerance. The first two studies are from 1968 and 1971. You can't read either study and the abstract for the second study noted there was conflicted data. One of them noted tolerance to marijuana's behavioral effects, but nothing to do with any kind of tolerance to any therapeutic effect. The other links I read talked about down regulation of receptors. However, none of the studies (and by none I mean not a single study) actually studied medical marijuana in a therapeutic setting to establish if it was or wasn't effective at treating a medical condition and if greater amounts of medical marijuana were needed over time to maintain the therapeutic effect. Down regulation of receptors doesn't automatically equate therapeutic tolerance to a medication. Hell, those studies don't even indicate what role those receptors play in ANY disease and what type of effect they produce clinically.

In other words, the tolerance effect isn't supported by the studies listed. Rather someone just baffled you with bullshit and you bought it hook, line, and sinker because you didn't bother to read the studies for yourself or you didn't understand them.

Which again underscores the point more research is needed and why law enforcement officials shouldn't be the gatekeepers to medical research.

I didn't get to the last two links after busying myself attempting to track down the source material, but even if they don't turn out to be more bullshit, the current legally available treatments cause tolerance and possibly addiction. So what is your point?  Marijuana is just as bad as what I can write a prescription for with my DEA license and medical credentials?

Really interesting take.  The whole thing is supposed to be private, so we'll never get all the facts.
What's interesting to me is the team was also fined, ostensibly for failing to keep contact such that Bell wouldn't miss a test.
Which begs the question if the team is fined for that, then why is Bell suspended?  Either he dodged the test, or protocols broke down.  The NFL is making both an exception while also envoking "protect the shield".
Simply put....shenanigans.

Let me guess, you think CNN is a legit unbiased news organization????????????????????? How about NBC and Chris Mathews or Rachel mad cow disease Maddow? I get it, you like to be uniformed and look through one set of eyes, the crooked liberal media. For the record, I read NBC, CNN and Fox news articles daily to look at different perspectives and why I know the media is very crooked.

I am so ready for 2024 season. I love pro football and hoping for a great Bengals year. Regardless, always remember it is a game and entertainment.

Is...this ever going to be allowed?

I don't think this will ever be allowed in my life-time. (IMHO)
The NFL represents themselves as an influential, inspirational, and family oriented event. It would send the wrong message to kids if marijuana, medicinal or not, would be allowed in the NFL.

I posted this in smack, because of the mentality of the Steelers fans...(as shown in the comment above).
they sell beer at games and allow ads for beer; how is marijuana any worse?

For terminally ill patients with cancer, are heart attacks, tolerance, or addictions that big of a concern for someone who is already terminally ill?

Drug companies and lobbyist have spent over $800 million to politicians since 2006.  I'm sure it was just out of generosity and they didn't expect anything in return.
