Just watched the movie. Very good!

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/71_2015/

Quote:'71 takes place over a single night in the life of a young British soldier (Jack O'Connell) accidentally abandoned by his unit following a riot on the streets of Belfast in 1971. Unable to tell friend from foe, and increasingly wary of his own comrades, he must survive the night alone and find his way to safety through a disorientating, alien and deadly landscape.

He couldn't find a pub to hide out in?

I was looking forward to seeing that, and it was supposed to open at the indie theater here, but that apparently was scuttled and I'd forgotten about it. So, thanks for the reminder.

Just checked and it's on pay-per-view, so definetly will be checking it out.

I remember hearing about the violence in Northern Ireland back in the seventies. It seems like everyday you would hear a short blub at the end of the news or see it in the back of the newspaper about someone setting off a bomb or a handful of people getting shot. Looking back now, it all sort of presaged similar situations our soldiers faced policing Iraqi cities. Soldiers don't make good police.

Christians (protestants) killing Christians (catholics) just like Muslims (Sunni) killing Muslims (Shia).

Yes. Sectarian violence. Lighting bombs and sniping. Just like Iraq.

To be fair there was a lot of political and regional factors in the dispute between Northern Ireland and the rest of the country.  So it wasn't just a "religious war".  but the sides were pretty much divided along religious lines.
