Osweiler doesn't matter in the grand scheme. They had over $100m coming into FA, so they're going to eat his salary this year and pick up a 2nd round pick next year for it.

They might even be able to re-trade him since nobody wants a $16m Osweiler, but maybe if the Redskins or someone could get a $2m Osweiler, then maybe they offer a 4th rounder or so.

Either way, the Browns had money they had to use, and they used it to buy draft picks. It's a pretty smart move.

The football team that's ran by baseball people just pulled off a basketball trade.

Sounds like now Osweiler will be immediately released. The Browns basically bought a 2nd and 6th rounder for the buyout of Osweiler against their cap.

This isn't MLB. This is the NFL where there is a salary cap. That is why teams don't make trades like this in the NFL.

Gave up a big chunk of their salary cap and a 4th round pick in a loaded class.

It was very smart.  As I understand it, Osweiler can be cut after this year with no ramifications.  You try him out this year to see if he can be your quarterback of the future.  You also draft Deshaun Watson with either the second first round pick and don't have to play him right away.

We can laugh all we want, but the Browns are not that far from turning it all around and they have a ton of money to do so.

You can talk all you want about the Browns, but they now have one of the best offensive lines, loaded with talent, loaded with early picks for premier players, and enough money to bolster that talent even more. Browns could go from total turds to a dynasty in two years if they draft well.

The Browns have 26 draft picks between this year and next year. I think they can pull a trade or two to get some impact guys.

Apparently the Browns aren't even thinking of doing that. Schefter said they were looking to trade him again now that they've eaten his salary and probably make him more marketable in a trade.

Yeah, as Nati said. They have just an absurd amount of draft picks in the next two drafts. If they can hit on some of those, combined with them focusing on their OL in this FA, it could turn around fast.

I know the Browns are the Browns, but their FO has really felt different this last time compared to the past.

Moneyball is crushing it. I just read the Browns are already considering releasing Brockweiler. They essentially bought an extra draft pick.

Teams already have reached out to Browns to inquire about Brock Osweiler's availability, per team sources.

We haven't even reached the 2017 draft and the Browns already have three 2nd round picks next year.

Did you look at the details of the trade? He won't play a snap and they get a secomd round draft pick. They basically bought a pick. Brilliant trade.

I read that after posting.  They basically pulled off an NBA type trade.
