Nah, not a "hipster". I just don't see the need to bring male chauvinism bullshit into this, which he did.

The big macro companies have everybody in the trailer parks, frat houses, and motorcycle toughguys thinking they're "real men" for drinking shitty, low ABV, light yellow piss water. It doesn't even make sense. If anything, it should be the exact opposite of that message.

Bfine wasn't fishing for a reaction, he's one of the knuckleheads that legitimately buys into that sort of thing.

I don't buy into the whole craft beer style. It's annoying when you're with a group and one guy goes "Do you have Green Summer Pale Fish Moose Bladder on A Bicycle Ale? No? Oh, well then how about a New Iron Age Tomato Paste Vinaigrette Jet Plane Book Shelf Old Fired? No, ok, how about..."

And there's just as many crappy craft beers out there as there are Budweisers and Natty Lites.

But, with that said, there's a lot of really good, not watered down beers, too. Stuff that's just a basic, good tasting beer that will sometimes have a lot more flavor. I just wish they had a different approach for bringing them to the shelf outside of being trendy. And right now, that's what they are, trendy.

For the most part, I share your disdain for the macros, however, I think Yeungling puts out a fine product....even their Light Lager has an amber hue to it.  I enjoy the Lager, the Porter, the Black and Tan, the Oktoberfest, and most importantly, I enjoy the Light Lager due to its low carb content.  My blood glucose numbers are improving every day, but if I want to have more than 3 or 4 brews, I have to go with the Light Lager.  It has carbs in the range of Michelob Ultra, but about 5 times the flavor profile.  I drink beer about 12 times a year or less.....I'll sip one or two occasionally in between, that's when I go for "the good stuff".

You're right...I don't get over the top on the craft beer craze....I have a few I really enjoy, most of them are local....Falls City, West 6th Brewing, and I like the stuff Cincy's Mt. Carmel puts out....and a few others.  I also tend to lump imports into this category, and there are some fine imports out there.

Hipsters that do that are obnoxious sure, but I'm not sure that has much do to with the craft beer itself. That would be like complaining about a certain kind of car just because the people that tend to drive them are douche bags.

If I'm out at a random restaurant, I ask if they have a beer list of any kind, and usually it will say "ask our servers for our craft selection!" or something along those lines, so I simply just do as it says and ask for their selection. I'm not going to sit there and rattle off my favorite, obscure beers that I already know they aren't going to have, I'd definitely agree with you that it would be annoying to do that.

There are definitely some bad craft beers, but a lot of people also think Blue Moon, Shock Top, and flavored root beer are "craft beer".

It would be like someone claiming that it's more manly to eat Little Caesars than to eat at a real New York pizzeria. Sure, it may be your taste (or budget or whatever other reasons), but there is obviously a "better" option, even though it is opinion based. I have a hard time calling most of the macros "beer", as they don't even have a real flavor profile, it's just awkward flavored water. There are a ton of pale lagers that are quality that taste great, but it doesn't make them girly for not having the AB InBev or MillerCoors stamp on it.

It may be trendy now, but a lot of us have been part of the craft community for quite a long time. My friends and I started drinking great beer as teenagers, and luckily, none of us have grown vaginas because of it. People can dislike the beer all they'd like, it just leaves more for me! The issue I have is with the chauvinistic shit.

They are far from being trendy, or a fad.  More and more Americans are finally getting some taste and flavors in their beer.  That being said, I do hate when somebody wants to play 20 questions with me when ordering a beer.  I've figured out that it has nothing to do with what my suggestions actually are and more to do with how much they think I know about beer and if they think they know more than I do.  I want to yell "just order the friggin beer already Sally!"  That being said, I really don't care what you order.  You want Bud light?  Fine, don't really care.

Market data, craft breweries are very popular and sought after in a lot of market areas, from rural like mine to more metropolitan. They're projected as extremely profitable short term, but their long-term projections are low.

Investors are seeing them as trends. Beer drinkers may not think of them that way, but if there isn't money being pumped into them because of a large area of disposable income, they aren't going to be as easy to open. It's the same with most businesses or products. In time as people move back to cigar bars or on to the next thing, you'll see fewer craft breweries. The macros will adapt because they've already got established networks and development. That's how large stores like McDonald's weather changing eating habits like the Atkins fad or the anti-sugar movement. They're big enough to not cap-size when the water gets rough. Small businesses like craft breweries have a harder time adapting to those changes.

Anyway, in the end, it's all beer. I'll drink to everyone enjoying one.

If anything, it's more "manly" to drink a heavy bodied 12% ABV stout, but I guess we can't all have a sophisticated taste.

****, yea. The one I listed is like 9.5% ABV. Lot's of malts, a nice rich taste. It's not some watered down piss like Bud Light.

Ya gotta do like I do.....when you're in a Yeungling market, load up.  I have been known to bring up to ten cases back with me.  Fortunately, it moved to Ohio, and now, I just have my inlaws from the Dayton area bring me a couple cases, or I pick up a few when I go there or Cincy.  I used to bring back big loads from WVA, Nashville, or South Carolina when we go to the Southern 500.

Nashville, eh?

Didn't know they had it there. I hate the town, but we go a couple times a year as it's only an hour and a half away and they have some good concerts, kids events, etc. Usually the only time I could pick up a couple cases was when I went further east.

I didn't even see your questionnaire originally, Belgian Tripels are excellent. I don't drink a whole lot from Victory anymore, but they were one of my gateways to the craft community. Without Troegs and Victory, I don't know if I'd have ever gotten into it, as I started young on those 2 breweries when the craft scene wasn't so popular. They opened my eyes to what is flavor and not the Canadian and American lagers I was drinking beforehand. I see quite a few people into craft beer on the boards and that's awesome to see.

If I go to a restaurant that doesn't have a good craft beer on tap or bottled, I'll just drink water. If I'm with friends and they offer me a Labatt Blue or Yeungling, I'll drink one with them. Yeungling is ridiculously popular around here, so you usually see at least a couple people drinking it at any social gathering. It's one of the very few macro lagers that I don't mind, but I really prefer ales.

Unfortunately, that's a common theme among the piss drinkers. They can insult craft by calling it "girly" (which makes zero sense), but then you're a "hipster" when you explain why it's not really manly to drink shitty beer. Meh, it is what it is.

Yup, it's in Tennessee.  I though you would be pretty close to the Vol state.  Just head across the state line, and you're golden. ThumbsUp

If this is the same Falls City that I remember then it definitely isn't one of those beers you drink with your pinky extended. Way back in the day they used to make a beer call Sterling. I was drinking Big Mouths before I could vote.

....had a few Sterlings in my day too.  It is the post prohibition Falls City Pale Ale formula, and it is most certainly not the stuff I swilled by the case all through college....lol.  I enjoyed the old brew.....I mean I literally drank enough of it to float a battleship.  They went under, and a brewer from Louisville (where it originated in the first place), purchased the naming rights, and somehow got the original formula from the company's return from prohibition, or close to it.  It's a little pricey, but it's pretty good stuff!
