I think our pitching coach is doing fine. 3 of our top starters are injured and we ate playing winning baseball. Sit back and enjoy the ride.

Davis is insanely overmatched in the majors right now. We really can't afford to give him a start every 5 games. There's gotta be a serviceable player in the minors or on the roster that can reliably pitch 5 to 6 innings, even if it's at the expense of 4 to 6 runs.
Oh, they explained this in Reds Game broadcast. Reds love how Cubs get an extra year of Kris Bryant not being able to go free agent from when he was bought up late or sent down or something....Anyway, Reds are going to leave Garrett in minors long enough to keep him off free agent list an extra year. They add that with days off they can rest his arm now, but it is pretty much this keeping him off free agency an extra year. I would guess this is the case with other young players in minors. I'm going to guess a date of May 20th, Reds bring back Garrett and others may start coming up.

How sad are the starting pitching options when you have to call up a guy that has a 5.61 ERA in AAA?

Look at MLB batting averages and I think 31 players are hitting over 300.. I remember when only a handful even hit 300 much less 30 of them so it's not really surprising. Of course it's still early in the season, but I think batters have a much better edge than in years past. IDK. Reds starting pitching is still pretty shakey..

So we can expect a +7 era.

I stayed up until 3am watching the Reds game. After the 14th inning, where they had guys on 2nd and 3rd and couldn't get a ***** run in, I went to bed.
Woke up to see it went 3 more innings and then ended with a walkoff home run and I was super glad I didn't waste another hour of sleep.

All things considered, Bonilla pitched pretty damn well. And, more importantly, gave out bullpen a day to recover from that absolutely brutal 17 inning game.
If only our offense was working this weekend...

Good news is Bonilla tossed a complete game, bad news is it was against SF and they lost 3-1. The bats have quieted down. Hopefully it's just a small blip and not a trend.

The Left Coast has not been too kind to the Reds for some time now.

So 2-1-1 in series play in May......5-5-2 in series play on the season.
Now at World Series Champion Chicago Cubs.
Reds had more pitching injuries in San Francisco. Right now Reds have to have the most injured pitchers in baseball.
Today is the 16th and around the 20th they can bring Garrett back and pull off this trick that he was in the minors long enough to keep him off free agency an extra year in future. That's what Reds announcers admitted this is all about. Chicago by accident kept Bryant off free agency an extra year, so now teams like the Reds are doing it on purpose.
So the best thing about this Cubs series is after it is over, we get our best pitcher this year back. Reds say they did it so Garrett's young arm can still be strong late in season. Adding an extra year to his non free agent big money status will have been accomplished by ownership. I would assume Garret pitches against Colorado or at least Cleveland in Cincinnati.
So the Reds get Garrett back who was never injured and was pitching good.....Mesoraco is back. He isn't hitting much yet and he isn't catching as much as before yet, but he is back....Reds have Homer Bailey and some other pitchers working their way back. Reds could be pitching loaded last 3 months of the year, ..MAYBE.... No matter what happens in Chi-Town, the Reds record won't be all that bad and it will be good to have Garrett back at some point around 21st. Team just isn't the same without Garrett every 5th game. It would be stupid now to bring him back early. The goal was 2 weeks in minors adds an extra year he can't go free agent. He was sent down around 7th, so he will be back around 21st. I'm sure they have it down to the second. It will be good to have him back against Rockies or Indians in Cincy. It would be silly to bring him to Chicago and ruin not having him most of 2 weeks. They might as well go the last few days of this free agency union trick and bring him up this weekend. Otherwise the trip to Louisville was pointless. The best thing about this Cubs Series is getting it over with, coming home to Cincy, and bringing Garrett back Saturday or Sunday, whichever day completes this scam of a contract move. Hey, when we have him an extra year in years to come, this move will look great.

Looks like Finnegan isn't back until after all-star break. Moved to the 60-day DL.

Reds lost opener....now 19-19...so are Cubs 19-19.....If Reds can at least win one game and return to Cincy 20-20, I'll be happy......With all these starters injured, we need Garrett back this weekend and I say send up Sal Romano with him. Garrett has been our best pitcher this season and Sal Romano had the best Spring Training of all Reds pitchers. Look, we need pitching. Bailey and Finnegan a long way from coming back. We Need Pitching Now...We could use Garrett and Romano now that past May 15th date. Just do it.......HEY OWNERSHIP, quit looking years down the road. You are around .500 ball now. BRING UP ROMANO WITH GARRETT....As Lou Piniella said over and over to Marge in 1990 all season long, GET ME MORE PITCHING......BRING UP ROMANO WITH GARRETT because some of out starters now Stink. Just awful.

Zero stolen bases against Lester? What's the point of having guys like Hamilton and Peraza? I think it's only 1 stolen base between the two of them during this 6 game losing streak.

This Colorado game is a laugher. One run against a guy with an ERA over 6 and our guys are just serving up batting practice. I've been calling for a new pitching coach, but I think it's time for Price to go too.

You're far from the only one calling for Price's head on a platter. He's pretty bad and should have been left as the pitching coach, The horse left the barn, but not before catching it on fire and locking all the livestock inside to die from burns and smoke inhalation..

Colorado in first place and could be better right now than Cubs or Brewers who clobbered the Reds....Rockies have hitting, Rockies have pitching. Rockies stating pitchers Saturday and Sunday are good Fantasy Baseball choice because putting up good numbers this season. Colorado has guys that flat out hit. .........Reds would have to have some batters in slumps start hitting such as Duvall, Suarez, Votto, ...maybe even Mesoraco....but, who in the heck can step up as a starter ???
I think Garrett will be fine. He was back on his game when they decided to not pitch him two weeks. No injury, Just decided to not pitch him. My first thought was that part of the gamble on this is he might be ice cold after not pitching 2 weeks. He was ice cold. I think a few starts and rookie Garrett should warm back up and get back into pitching in majors, I hope....The rest of the staff looks like a MASH unit with all these injuries. They amaze me not giving Sal Romano a chance to come up here and start some games. He dominated in March in Spring Games. I don't see what the Reds have to lose giving him a shot. I thought he earned a spot in March. This team could very much use Garrett AND Romano because some of these Reds starters are real sad sacks.
A week ago I would have said Price Manager Of The Year so far.....I still don't blame him for all these injuries or ownership trading off Chapman, Phillips, Bruce, Leake, Frasier... Ownership that talks of trading Hamilton and Cozart, which makes no sense to me. ....I thought Price was working miracles this year having the Reds in first place a week ago....The road trip Frisco and Chi-Town was a set back....Maybe the Reds can get lucky. The Rockies are pretty good though. Reds could get lucky. Duvall, Votto, Suarez, Mesoraco need to raise those batting averages. Looks like the young players to replace Phillips and Cozart are struggling. Might want to get Scooter Gennett in at second more. After this is 4 games with Cleveland Indians who almost won World Series. Count on them being 4 tough games. THE SCHEDULE HAS BECAME MIGHTY HARD ON THE REDS OF LATE...I don't think it's Price, I just don't think we are as good as Cubs and Indians and teams we are playing right now....When do we play the Padres or The Marlins. I think we can beat them.
I'll be rooting for Reds over Indians this week, but after that if Reds fade, I may end up following Indians a lot. I'd like to see them get back to World Series since they haven't won since 1940's. They are pitching loaded and showed they could even hit Cubs pitching. I wouldn't mind following Indians more if Reds fade. I'm hoping Reds can get back to winning.
