Rex Burkhead...

Getting a lot of hype going into this season as one of our Slot guys and played well for us
in the Playoffs unlike all the rest of our Receivers. Dude is quick and can beat backers at
will and has been doing it again this Offseason.

Might be a surprise player for us this season in the mold of a Wes Welker 2.0.

First thread i started on the new board BTW.

Eh, I think we will see him every now and than at the slot position but I nothing as in starting at slot tho..

Maybe be our 4th/5th receiver.

Burkhead always suprises me with how he looks like Gio when he is out there. I always thought he would be a slow white dude and an easy cut. 

He has very quick burst and is intelligent. He could be a great slot player with all the other weapons on our offense.... Hue Jackson always talks about how Burkhead is one of our best players and he needs to find ways to get him out there so I think the playoff game was a blessing in disguise as we saw untapped potential there.

I think he could be a great slot threat.

The difference is Sanu is not quick whereas Rex is.

Rex can get seperation whereas this has always been Mo's biggest problemo.

Who is our starting Slot guy right now anyways?

I was watching some older highlights the other day and remembered how much Dalton would use baby hawk as a safety outlet.

We didn't have ANYONE viable in the slot last year with all of the injuries.

who was our slot receiver last year while Sanu was doin time as the number 1?

The slot has definitely evolved.

Housh was a slower ball possession slot guy, which is what we were originally looking for with Sanu.

However, I believe most teams in the NFL prefer the quick burst speed slot receiver as they can do so much more with the revamped defensive rules in pass coverage.

There used to be a place for the bigger slot guys when defenders could manhandle receivers more... but since that is not as it used to be the quick guys are the way to go.

Both kinds of slot guys have their uses I guess, and some of the quick burst guys can be fragile.

From what it seems, It's gonna be Sanu or Rex or both share time at the position.

Sanu ovbiously has more experience at the wide receiver / slot position. Don't think we have a true slot right now.

All true, but being a former RB might help Rex in the fragility factor.

Sunset knows whats up. The quickness he has is what is intriguing about him and his hands.

I bet Welker could be beat by most receivers in straight line speed but he was one of the best Slot
receivers of our time, maybe the best and it was because of his quickness and ability to get open
using such and getting in and out of his cuts.

I remember some combine stats on Burkhead where he was the best in numerous quick drills...

Sanu and Rex have similar workout numbers the only major difference between them is size. Which Sanu wins.

Was impressed with the touches and what he did in the New Orleans game last year, if he contributes like that it will be another bullet in the loaded offensive arsenal.....

There is speed and there is quickness.

I enjoyed watching Rex yesterday. He impressed me with his quickness, power and cutting ability. He can play both RB and slot receiver and special teams. Simply, he is the type of football players Bill Belichick has always found over the years. He could be our Wes Walker or Edelman.

He is not as fast as Bernard, but he is as quick in my opinion.

I think Sanu has more height and a tad more power. I think Rex has better hands and is quicker in and out of breaks. I think their speed is similar.

I'm not as worried about slot guys.

It's that #2 guy if Marvin Jones doesn't produce.

That is were there should be some real concern.

Can Rex play the slot?  Sure.  So can Mo or other guys...  and possibly someone who gets cut elsewhere.

To be honest if Eifert steps up and is used correctly, there is no reason why Sanu can't do it.

It's that WR on the side opposite of Green that needs to help take the top of the defense that is the biggest question mark IMO.

I like the idea we could have multiple receivers capable of playing and playing well more than one WR position. I like the idea of getting depth because we all know there will be injuries, whether for a series due to a player being dinged or concussion protocol or for games. It is a very good thing having guys like Rex and Bernard who have the ability to jump into the slot for a few plays each game. It also gives Hue more ability to create mismatches the more versatile his backs and receivers are so we lose predictability.

Wouldn't proper utilization of the 2 TE set alleviate the need for the WR2 to take defenders deep?  By sending AJ and Eifert deep out of that set, should certainly allow for TE2 or WR2 to end up with a favorable 1 on 1 vs a LB.
