Mike Brown Calling Out Coaching For Poor Start

“1. Marvin Lewis, Cincinnati Bengals: NFL Media reported Sunday morning that owner Mike Brown had previously "informed the coaching staff that the talent is not the problem" with his winless team. Then, despite their best performance of the season at Green Bay, the Bengals subsequently fell to 0-3, virtually guaranteeing consecutive seasons outside of the playoffs for lame duck Lewis, who's never won a postseason game in 14 years on the job. Last week: 1”

Anyone else hear that Mike Brown is actually saying this?  C’mon Mikey pull the trigger and make a statement on your 50th anniversary that the fans don’t have to endure a full season of Lewis at head coach!

Wow, cannot believe i did not see this until now. Shocked

Encouraging. MB better be looking at his good ole buddy PA in this right after Marv or even right before him.

We need these two replaced terribly bad if this team is going to be a contender anytime soon.

Hard to root for us to lose against the Browns though, that would probably be what it would take for these things to happen.

Just glad that MB acknowledged the coaching problems. ThumbsUp

BUT, the offensive line is 5 guys. We have 4 subpar guys there and it destroys the running game and timing on offense.

It's kind of like having a Lamborghini and putting a Ford Escort motor in it and wondering why you aren't winning races. You look really fast, but don't perform well.

No, I get that, but are ANY of their problems fixable? Is there some sort of scheme or technique that could be taught that would correct SOME of their issues.

In season? Sadly...I doubt it. Technique is fixed in the offseason.

Scheme? You can chip with RB's and give help with TE's...but when you have 4 bad lineman, how do you know who to help?

The best you can do at this point is start Andre Smith at RT. Start Hopkins at Guard when he comes back. Bench Bodine and start Johnson at Center.

When they played Johnson last year at the end...it seemed like we could run better.

Doing those things would improve the line some.

Unfortunately I agree with you and it doesn't bode well for the fans when you have an owner with the mentality to be competitive "just enough"

If we hire Paul Alexander as head coach, I'd stop following the Bengals.

I would stick around the boards though, just to see how homers would somehow spin it into a positive hire. Mellow

Remember last year when the excuse for Ogbuehi's poor performance was lack of work on technique due to no offseason workout with injury? What's this season's excuse? I remember piano man saying his performance was due to to lack of offseason work due to injury.

I love how the coaches have excuses for their lack of preparation and execution Whatever

I seriously doubt that would happen, its just a fear for Bengal fans because of their disgust for him. Even Mike isn't that stupid...

I am convinced that Mike Brown is a good  man. Mike Brown is also a smart man and in his brain he knows Marvin should have been fired after the Pittsburgh playoff loss.

The meltdown in the playoff game was the fault of the coaching staff and Marvin and the team culture for which they are responsible. The inconsistent and poor play, lack of preparation, lack of focus,  since then is because of the same thing.

Failing to clean house after the playoff game led to a completely wasted 2016 and a 2017 that is going to be worse.

If he wants the Bengals to have a shot before he leaves this world, he needs to completely clean house with a new head coach who can hire his own team of coaches. That is the only chance for making this team into a genuine Super Bowl contender.

The new coach will need at least a year and maybe two putting in his systems and culture.

Maybe the son of Paul Brown actually wants his team to be excellent is starting to accept reality.

If his cheap ass would have resigned at least one of our best offensive lineman from last year maybe we would have a win by now.

MIKE BROWN hasnt wont a playoff game in nearly two decades. What a loser.

I do believe with all my heart that Mr.Mike Brown felt as if this team was the one team that would and could make a serious run and so did a lot of other nfl folks.Paul Alexander has allowed what an offensive line used to be stay in his way of looking at how offensive players have evolved and he is way behind all of it. Mikes biggest problem is he is too loyal to his players and his coaches. He does not like change and for about 10 years that has worked for him as these cincy teams have been very close and should have won a playoff game.I blame marvin and not sitting adam jones down during that playoff game against the steelers.Mike will not fire marvin during the season unless he continues to lose. That is not his MO>however if he does he will jjust give the job to some other jerk on this staff that is not deserving but he wants a yes man at the top.Katie does not have the balls to be the pres of this team. She will need a GM and many others to make this team a contender. At this time the whole world knows we need a complete O-line,a better qb,like an AJ.McCarron who will be a stud somewhere. He is going to need time to get up to speed, but I would put him in the first sign of Dalton being dumb. The brownies have the talent to beat us and word up north is they are so pumped to beat us and I think they will. They are really jacked up for this and I think they will just have too much energy for us,especially if adam jones and Kirkpatrick plays. It will be a long day and their defense is much better than greenbays.

I don't think the team ever recovered from that loss and keeping Marvin while a the same time losing Hue.

You better PRAY that Mike Brown doesn't fire Marvin Lewis.

If he does, you will be stuck with Guenther as the head coach and the only change will be the DC. It's not worth it. We will start out 2-7 and then win 5 more games late and Brown will say what a wonderful job Guenther did in turning the team around.

And, for what it's worth, the talent is the problem. The line is horrible and you can't do anything without a line.

But it WOULD be a good hire because ... ummmm ... something something good lines a few years ago something something big enough to stand up to players something something something dark side something something.

Eh, I got nothing. If a certain FRiEnDly, former, TOtAlly nice poSTer were here, we'd get some good stuff, I'm sure. Mellow

After this off season I'm already there. I've given Mike Brown 26 years to pull his head out of his ass. I think that's more than fair.

According to one source, only five teams have made the playoffs after starting 0-3 since 1980. So the chances this team will make the playoffs is slim to none and it's only September.

Even if the Bengals are 2-3 at the bye week I still want someone fired and replaced, just because, you know, to send a message with respect to accountability.

I actually think that the WORST thing in Bengals 50 year history was the day Paul Brown died and Mike Brown took over.  Mike Brown is the cheapest and worst owner in NFL Football.  His record as an owner speaks for itself. It can not be defended.  There should be a sign on his desk saying, '" THE BULL STOPS HERE "....it could also say, " THE BUCK STOPS HERE ", but with Mike Brown it could mean CHEAP more than RESPONSIBILITY.  As in the dollars and the bucks stop here because I won't spend them. .....So as Mike Brown calls out coaching, I call out Mike Brown and declare The Emperor Has No Clothes...and he doesn't have any scouts either. He is penny smart and dollar foolish.

The more i think about it i hope they keep Marv this year and just go find another coaching staff right after the season is over.

If they fire anyone in season it better be Paul Alexander who is the clear problem.

I disagree on your last statement though Hammerstripes. Besides Bodine, these players have talent and are coachable.

Just need a good coach to coach them up. Hire a good one and let him draft his future LT in the 1st, Center in the 2nd.

Cant use that excuse, Lewis has had many talented players and coaches in past and still came up empty handed EVERY time. Look at the source!
