Adam Jones thinks he’d have $100 million but for his suspension

In many respects, it’s amazing that Bengals cornerback Adam Jones remains in the NFL a full decade after the artist formerly known as Pacman arrived amid a flurry of off-field entanglements that culminated in a one-year suspension after only two NFL seasons.

Jones, who soon will turn 32 in a sport that consistently turns toward younger players, believes that if he hadn’t gotten into trouble he’d have a lot more money in the bank.

“If I would have never gotten suspended, I would have $100 million right now,” Jones said, via Coley Harvey of ESPN.com.

The subject came up after reporters were posing questions about Jones’ football career if he’d only be a kick and punt returner instead of a defensive back, too.

“Ifa, woulda, coulda,” Jones said.

Of course ifa/woulda/could Jones had $100 million, he’d still owe more than $12 million of it to the guy who was shot in Las Vegas during an incident that Jones allegedly instigated. Unless his ifa/woulda/coulda applies not just to the suspension but to the specific behaviors that contributed to it.

Since then, Jones has matured considerably, becoming a key contributor to a Bengals team that has been to the postseason in four of his five seasons in Cincinnati. It’s an impressive story of redemption for a player who eight years ago seemed destined to be long gone from the NFL by the end of that decade.

Instead, he’s made it halfway into the next one, and he’s still going strong.

From what I've heard he doesn't seem to have turned around, maybe he's just better at not getting caught. I work security in the downtown area. I've never personally had an encounter with him. But numerous of my bouncer friends have said they absolutely hate seeing him in their place because he always starts trouble. And I have also heard one friend say that he got denied entry into his place for carrying concealed.

Don't believe it.  Nor do I believe that he shot that bouncer who sued him and got set for life.  I believe that Adam Jones has had problems with controlling his impulses in his past but has been a victim of who he's surrounded himself with as well as circumstance.  The only hard evidence that exists of him doing wrongdoing is a video of a woman who pours beer on him.  I think that he's had it rough for a very long time due to the vibe that he gives off.  Looks like we're 1 for 1 in the opinion department.  I'd urge you to try and get to know the guy if you ever meet him.

No one has ever said that HE himself shot the guy.    And he's been cited for disorderly conduct multiple times since he got to Cincy and asked to leave the casino. How many times can the guy get himself into trouble before we start calling a spade a spade? No I don't think he's as out of control as he was 10 years ago. But only a fool would think he's completely reformed

You ALMOST sound like one of those guys who think we are still in 2005 or 2006.  Adam isn't perfect but he has been a good teammate, gives 100% on the field,  and does seem to have turned his life around.

Civil court of law said that he himself shot the guy.  And I've seen absolutely nothing to confirm your opinion that he's "out of control" other than the video of that person who started the confrontation.  You could be Ben Rapistburger trolling for all I know.  I don't buy your story.

He's Pacman. He's a bad dude. You don't reform a Pacman, man. You let him get chill on the game. He's in his thirties; he's built rep. We all good on Pacman up in here. He seems like a good dude in the numerous times I've typed to him.  Seems very humbled whenever I've typed to him.

I've been downtown to bars and have friends that are at downtown bars a lot and have never heard anyone say that he has caused any type of trouble.

Sucks that he'd have 100 million, but I was thinking about this:  what do all these players need that kind of money for?  I realize that problems come up after retirement, they have houses, cars, blah, blah, blah, but do they plan on dying with all that money?  We have an unemployment problem, so why not spend money to open a business, have someone else run it, hire a lot of people, and even if they're not making money but just coming out even, who gives a shit?!  They're not losing any money and they'd be helping out society!!

I have that opinion about a lot of rich people, not just athletes.

Opening a business is risky, and doesn't always work out. If I had 100m I wouldn't open a business. I would probably just be on a lifetime vacation.

Jones is one of the biggest success stories in Bengals history and they should always be proud of that. I was certain he was headed down Thurman's, Henry's..etc.. path, and I am so happy that I was wrong.

He was running his mouth at some girl.  If you really did see the video then you saw the guy with him try to drag him away before he went over to the girl and showed his ass. And he has a long long history of abusing women. This was not an isolated incident. He acts like a high school thug around women instead of a grown man.


That being said. I will admit that I was wrong about Adam. I never thought he would keep it together this long for the Bengals and actually become one of our best CBs
