Without a salary cap in the MLB most mid-sized / small cities won't have much of a chance. The salary cap they have now is not worth much. I am surprised that ST. Louis is doing as great as they are with their middling payroll though. They have a great scouting department. Seems like everything they touch is gold.
Plus, Houston has created the template for the future of MLB as far as smaller markets. They basically have put a statistician in charge of putting the team together. And so far, he's doing well. 1st place.

Don't look now but that's 3 in a row ! Is Byrd going to keep this up ? Is Bruce ever going to come out of his 2 year slump ?

Marquis against Bumgarner tonight. Doesn't seem quite fair.

30 runs in three games against a team I think I heard was at the bottom offensively. Nice work.

I was there last week for two games against Atlanta. They lost the first game in a heartbreaker in the 9th inning on a wild pitch. The second one I was there for they won 4-3 in the bottom of the 9th. I am happy I got you guys 1 win anyway. I wanted to get a hold of some board members here to get together but hard when I had my Girlfriend with and both our Dads with us. We went to horseshoe casino too.

Pathetic. 1 run in 18 innings against two starting pitchers with 5+ ERAs.

I think it's really time to start shopping Cueto. The Reds could get much more from him now than they would later on in the season. Just get some much needed prospects and re-stock the organization.
I just don't think there is enough talent or luck on this team to end in a positive manner.

Yeah... They need to trade him yesterday while a contender can get some use outta him, and will be willing to give up a lot to get him. The Reds are going nowhere fast with him.
I'm gonna break every record they've got. I'm tellin' you right now. I don't know how I'm gonna do it, but it's goin' to get done.

Check out the Top 10 article on Reds website. Really pathetic last in majors bullpen era and last in majors batting avg WRISP. Exact same problems from last season. Also, what the hell happened to Votto? Does he need to go back to the 2 hole. How can you go from 6 homers in April to only 1 extra base hit in the month of May?

Sadly it's time to blow this team up, it's not early we're 1/4 the way thru the season now. And it's basically the same problems from the last few seasons. Trade Cueto for sure, but Votto and Bruce need to go if possible somehow someway as well.
It's time for a restart

He does his job really well, and it'll suck to see him go, but they could really help out their future by shopping him to someone that feels that they're one player away. I know that it's still early and anything could happen, I just don't see this team pulling off a miracle. There just isn't enough talent there right now.

Ruh-roh, Cueto start pushed back due to elbow soreness.... there goes his trade value.
And the circus continues with Price being ejected during line-up card exchange...

Time to trade most of our expensive players (Phillips, Votto and Cueto in particular) and start from scratch.
I would include Bruce in that list as well, but we couldn't get a used condom for him anymore. He's pretty much worthless.
Oh, and fire Price. That guy is a train wreck.

Reds are in for some long term bad times.
It appears we are repeating the Marge era with not enough attention to minor league program.
It does not appear to me that Reds have ANY good hitting prospects in the minors.
They need to trade as many people as possible and re-load like the Astros have done.
Sad to say but that is where the franchise seems to be at the moment.
1940 to 1975 ( 35 years) between WS winners. 1990 plus 35 years equals 2025. That may be what we are looking at right now.
The Reds are just an awful team right now with no help on the way.

Yep ! Sadly as you say, it's time to hit the restart button. Just suck it up and take the losses. Votto, Bruce, Phillips, Cueto, maybe even Chapman all need to go. Get whatever you can for them and start rebuilding.
