The Stains need to win more than half their games before they become a contender.
We have a good QB and new coaches with a fresh energy going on here.
I don't think we are as far off from landing this guy as some think as long as the Ravens don't offer him an absurd amount...
The Ravens went 6-1 with Lamar Jackson as the starter. For as much as he wasn’t an elite passer, he got the job done enough to get them wins.

Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.
Sorry for Party Rocking!

Damnit, your right! Kid knows how to win even though he sucks at throwing the ball.

He got them wins, until some team had a chance to play them for a second time. Chargers shut him down in the playoff game.
Volson is meh, but I like him, and he has far exceeded my expectations

Good point. Didnt think about that. Teams really didn't know what to expect first time around.

And now, there's 7 games worth of footage on Jackson, as well as a mapped out blueprint on how to shut him down, for all 31 other teams to look at. I sort of feel the same way about Baker Mayfield, although his management did a fantastic job of surrounding him with talented skill players, whereas Lamar Jackson and the Ravens have a long way to go before their offense is more than a one man show.

True, but isn't hard to game plan against him. Keep him in the pocket and make him beat you passing the ball.

Exactly, the way the Chargers played him is the way to play Lamar.

Yes, now we should be prepared, Mayfield is a good passer which is why he worries me a bit more. He is also a diva though and adding OBJ to him could be a bad combination, we will see how these guys handle losing, might not be pretty...

Look at Mayfield's game logs before anointing him. When not playing our historically bad defense or Atlanta's very poor defense he was VERY average and had a serious turnover problem. Let's see what he does when teams have tape on him and hopefully our defense is not historically bad.

Baker Mayfield is not going to fair well this season. Just my gut feeling. He has way too much cockiness and other players have his number. A humble QB he is not, and he hasn't really taken the team into a playoff or anything. All he did was help win a few in a desperate browns nation who had a hard time remembering what a win was, nor the press. So, as he stands on his pedestal, he will soon fall harder than his predecessor Manziel.

I believe he will sign with the brownies, they spend a ton of money and they will convince him they are already champs.

Alright, I'll give you that. The WR analogy may not accurately reflect having two 3 tech DTs.
But the reality is that you can't start both. Maybe on 3rd/passing downs.
Why can’t u start both? Outside of playing maybe the cowboys they both can start no problem

Man some of you are in complete denial about Mayfield. He’s the real deal. And yes I hate it as much as you do.

The Browns haven't beaten a single team with a winning record since they fired Hue. If beating up on wretched teams that are playing for draft position makes you the real deal, they really should've kept Marvin Lewis at HC. I'm not convinced that he isn't or won't be good, but the evidence doesn't really support him being an above average QB just yet.

He may be the real deal, but let's make him prove he can win games with a great offense and defense first. He has yet to make the playoffs albeit 1 year snapshot.
He certainly has been set up for success with great OL and skill players at all positions on offense. And a defense that should get him the ball back quickly and allow Browns offense more plays than most NFL teams.
2024 may go on record as one of most underperforming teams in Bengal history. Bengal's FO has major work to do on defensive side of the ball. I say tag and trade Tee Higgins in 2025 to start with the rebuild.

And every other rookie QB only plays elite teams? Didn’t think so. Yet Mayfield still set the rookie record when he didn’t even start all 16 games. Chalking it all up to the competition is weak. If a Bengals QB set that record I guarantee we wouldn’t be discounting because we played the Browns twice.

A lot of people on this board downplay what players on other team do and overrate a lot of young Bengals.
IF we had Jackson and he went 6-1 as the starters, we'd be thrilled talking about how dangerous he'll be when he gets passing yardage.
IF we had Mayfield, traded for OBJ, and signed Hunt...there would be so many Super Bowl threads started.
Admitting that other teams have talent and potential is ok. Basically you can point to any team in the NFL and see talent and positives.

I don't disagree, but our young QB took us to a bunch of straight playoffs and won a lot of regular season games, yet many discounted him and still do saying it is his great surrounding cast. The problem is his surrounding cast on offense has not been great each year. The defense have never been top 5 and I think once top 10 since he took over so no major help there for him either.
Jackson is lethal running the ball, the Ravens OL is lethal run blocking. Their defense keeps them in every game. But, Jackson will have to become a better passer. I think he will, my question for Jackson is will he read the game well and read defenses well when teams put him position to have to pass.

If Browns avoid the injury bug, I see Mayfield throwing for over 4000 yards and being great rushing team as well regardless of the teams they play good or bad.

No doubt. And I agree with all that you said.
I like Dalton. What I ask myself is IF you put Dalton on the Packers and Rodgers on the Bengals would Dalton be MVP level or would Rodgers? But, yes...especially the last 3 years the Bengals haven't had a good supporting cast around him. Going into this season, we have some really good skill players, but the line is a questionmark again.
I don't know that the Ravens have good WR's with Jackson...but I don't think Jackson is a great passer either. Teams will adjust and take that away and he will need to pass.
But, if you're McCoy and want to go to a winner...you go to the Ravens over Bengals as the Ravens have 2 SB's in the last 20 years and seem to know how to build teams that compete.

True, and what would every teams fans and media be saying about us? Didn’t beat anyone good last year, haven’t won a playoff game since... and year after year that all stays valid. Browns are what they are until they prove otherwise. Same for us. Same for their 20th qb savior in the last 20 years. Talk is cheap, paper teams are cheap. None of the matters until they actually prove they are any better than they’ve been before.
