No, he's not elite.  No one is saying that.  What people ARE saying is that when the QB is off, (like the Bengals' run in 88, and the win in 90, or Pig Pen's disastrous 34.5 PR in a SB WIN), is that the coaching staff and other parts of the team step up and win the game.  That NEVER happened under Mediocre Merv.  Hell, we even wasted Cedric Benson's monster rushing game in the 09 playoffs.  Marvin was outclassed every time we stepped on the field in the playoffs, and in a lot of big prime time games (which is usually against playoff caliber teams).

Hey, at least you'll be the only one that thought Andy Dalton played QB in 2009 for the Bengals. Mellow

The 11 seasons Boomer didn't have a top ranked rushing team to carry him, he was a losing QB.

And Boomer is considered a god around here while Dalton is the one who "can't do anything without great talent around him".

Play in a SB vs. can't win a first round playoff game will get you that.

Not if you need the number one rush offense in the league to carry your ass in the postseason.  Boomer never had a single winning season with out a running game that was top 3 in the league.

So thanks for proving my point about the Dalton haters around here.

It's not just Dalton haters. It's the way it is anywhere. Players are held to a higher esteem when they have seasons like Kenny and Boomer did.

MVP+SB appearance is going to get you way more love than losing 4 straight first round playoff games, numbers be damned.

Let's face it, we have had zero HOF QBs in 50+ years.  Call it Bengals hate all you want, but the numbers don't lie.  We can't even live in the past.

Dilfer won a SB with that idiot Marvin Lewis on the coaching staff, so he must have been amazing.

Dilfer was a badass.....(or, it could have had something to with the four HOFers on that one team, while the Bengals have ONE HOFer in their entire existence........either way Mellow )

We are agreeing 100%.  Fans who do not have a clue what they are talking about will claim Boomer "made players around him better" when in fact the numbers prove that is absolutely wrong.

That is what gets so frustrating around here.  People just make stuff up out of thin air and claim it is true.
