Should Core Get The Start?

He has probably been the most consistent performer on special teams from the WR group....I don't think Malone played teams at all....that could be a deciding factor.

Based on what?  Malone doesn't play teams, either.  I see them as similar bodies, but Core is a bit thicker and stronger.  Not sure either has the talent to be on the roster, though, as WR.  Supposedly, Core worked out with a specialist on footwork, flexibility, and agility in the offseason.  Not sure how much it has helped thus far.  We will see.

The biggest reason is he doesn't have hands of stone like Core does.  We're not talking about playing ST's.  The question was who gets the start while AJ's out.

That's a bad thing?
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.

He played in 14 games last year and with his other worldly special teams dynamo skills managed to have 3 special teams tackles. He also started 3 games and for the year managed to accumulate a grand total of 13 catches 160 yards and 1 TD.

We can do better. 8 special teams tackles in 3 years doesn't equal irreplaceable special teams staple. If we are going to throw to a receiver who has a better chance of dropping the ball than catching it then it needs to be Ross.

Don't overlook Morgan. Or Willis for that matter. Both are showing in camp so far that unlike Core they actually have hands. And if they show they can run routes properly I think ZT will go with them.

Whoever shows it in camp is the one to start. Core has done nothing spectacular to stand out. At at least up to now. We need someone to make a leap.

The Bengals have been getting Malone some work on special teams in training camp this year, so keep an eye on that.

As for the OP's question, I'd be shocked if it wasn't Boyd and Ross starting at WR week 1. I know a lot of people don't want to hear that.

just depends on what formation we open with... 3WR or 2WR lol

I'm still rooting for Willis for now. It seems like every team other than the Bengals finds some great WR out of nowhere who's an undrafted guy. We've had a few, but none that ever took the league by storm. I'd love to see either him or Morgan walk right in and get themselves 700-1000 yards and 5-7 TDs. For that matter I wouldn't mind if we found ourselves some CFA stud receiver who was able to have folks saying AJ who?
That's not to put AJ down. I just want someone able to step right in and be the guy who eventually replaces AJ as he ages. I'm fine with seeing that start right now instead of 5 years from now. The notion that whoever eventually replaces AJ MUST be a first or second round pick? I'm OK with anyone able to do it regardless of where they came from..

If the Bengals start Cody Core at wide receiver this year, that tells me that they are desperate, and are in for a long season.

Don't forget the one against Shitsburgh either.....ugh.

How owes Darin Simmons half his contract....and he's nothing special there either.

I heard Malone was getting some snaps on kickoff returns...and muffed about half of his return catches.  I wonder if they are serious or just looking to see if he can do anything to help them.  He doesn't seem to run good routes and I wonder about his NFL IQ, but then again, you could say that about a lot of these guys that haven't done anything in their third year.

Of course it could be all hype and nothing more, but we'll see. I have a good feeling about him and my feelings are world renowned for....Oh nevermind what they're world renowned for..You don't wanna know.  Whatever

cut down day,it will be Core  UNLESS he balls out rest of camp and that includes pre-season.Someone has to go and I do believe it will be him. And unless Ross has a pro-bowl year,he will be gone next season. There are a bunch of top receivers coming out of college next draft and we will get one of them. ThumbsUp

I thought Ross was day to day? I would assume he would still be a starting receiver, right?

This. I haven't really been impressed with him thus far.

If Cody Core is the starting WR2 for the 2019 Bengals, they are going to be in big trouble.

Forget the terrible Oline and LB core- If Cody Core is your third best WR, they should just forfeit the season

I dont trust Core. He's horrible when the pressure is on. No Core please! Actually prefer we send him to Pittsburgh, it would help us tremendously.
