I believe the rationale is give up the middle and make them waste clock. But once they crossed midfield they should've gone back to normal defense.

Well, sure but when you're giving up points then it defeats the entire purpose of prevent. Especially under two minutes lol

He did start to turn his head, first time I've seen that. Couple more years and he'll be up to average DB level.
