I have to side with the organization here. He hasn't played a full season in what? Three years? He's been hurt the last year and a half. He's over 30 years old.

Expecting a big contract after missing an entire season is asking a lot. I don't care who you are. Come back next season ready to go, and continue discussions from there.

Green could get a hefty slice of contract money. Don't kid yourselves. Nobody would be foolish enough to only offer league minimum. He's been injured, but not otherwise unhealthy. An uninjured AJ Green is an asset to any team...period. Now, there of course is risk associated with it just as there is risk associated with any player, but he has proven his abilities in the league. One year off or even a year and a half haven't diminished his skill. He can still catch the ball with the best of them.

They didn't IR, he held down a roster spot, meanwhile contributing absolutely nothing all year and getting paid. If thats not commitment then I dont know what it.

Not going to lie here but I think I see the Bengals and Green heading towards a bad divorce.

Why the hell would another team pay him 18 million and give up 2 1st rounders? Not happening.

I can't be mad at anyone who no longer wants to play for Mike Brown and his merry band of family idiots. No player is going to have success here with Mikey boy running the show.

We have so many missing pieces that in order to rebuild I would let him go and use that money to help rebuild the team. He's hurt more often than not the last two years so I can't see spending $18 million for a franchise tag.

Exactly. We cant give a huge contract to someone based on what they did 4 yrs ago. I think AJ understands that since he mentions the business side of things, so no reason for him to be offended about it. He has had a great attitude over the years, but really hard to shell out large money based on kindness over performance and that’s the bottom line, performance. However, MB is loyal, so AJ will eventually get his money.

In fairness to them, the Bengals clearly couldn't have traded him due to his injury.

If the Bengals get the #1 pick, I will preemptively strike with an order of a custom Burrow jersey literally within 1 minute of them locking the pick down. From there, I am an advocate of a total jettisoning of the old guard. That means sign and trading AJ to whomever, trading AD, trading Gino Atkins (who has virtually disappeared again), and trading Dre K.

Imagine the rebuild that could be with a 1st or 2nd for AJ Green, a 3rd or 4th or 5th for AD, a 3rd or 4th or 5th for Atkins, and a 3rd or 4th or 5th for Dre K. BTW, the defense looking way better since Dre K left isn't a fluke. He sucks, but the rumor before the deadline was that some NFL teams like him. MOVE THOSE CONTRACTS ON EXPENSIVE OLDER GUYS.

Grab the QB, WR, OL, and LBs needed and in 2 to 3 seasons the Bengals could be monsters. Use AJ's money on Joe Mixon and WJ3.

I think there are two different options here.

One is the Bengals non-exclusive franchise tag him. He can then negotiate with other teams but if he signs elsewhere that team gives up two first rounders.

The second is that that the Bengals franchise tag him (either exclusive or non-exclusive) and he signs the offer sheet with the Bengals and then gets traded. This needn't necessarily be for two firsts - e.g. Frank Clark was franchised and then traded to the Chiefs for a 1st and a 2020 2nd. Half the players who were tagged this year were traded, the other half were extended. Jadeveon Clowney was one who was traded after being tagged - for two players plus a third round and that might be the type of value we'd be looking at.

I doubt the Patriots or Steelers would franchise him. They'd thank him for their service and move on.

The Steelers franchise tagged a HB for 15 million who told them he wasn't showing up without a deal and didn't get a game out of him. Let's not pretend like they are immune from personnel issues.

Get him healthy and sign the guy. We need a vet WR to help Burrow along. AJ made Andy look very good winning so many 50/50 balls over the years. Give him a better QB to wind down his career with.

Are some of you high and living in some fantasy world in which the best player on the team shouldn't look after his own personal financial interest and instead just sign over his future to Mike Brown regardless of outcome? While I'm certainly no fan of multi-millionaire players leveraging a bit of talent to shaft an entire fan base the fact of the matter is it's been going on for a long time now and isn't going away simply because these players perhaps upset your sensibilities of fairness and money. "TRADE HIM!", but to who and for what? Just because you might want a trade doesn't mean it'll happen and Mike Brown isn't exactly known as the master trader. In fact it could be argued that Mike Brown is the anti-trader of anti-traders. In what world do you see the Brown family making a great trade that benefits the team and fans in any significant way?

Not going to lie here but I think I see the Bengals and Green heading towards a bad divorce.

Palmer saw an elbow specialist and sat out 12 games in 2008 when it was obvious the team was bad. No one accused him of collecting a check.
