The Rise of Skywalker.

I hated and I still hate ep 8, I went to the theater not expecting anything and it was a pleasant surprise.

Not perfect far from this but definitely Star Wars vibes all along.

Hat off to JJ Abrams for making this after the pile of ash that was left.

Yeah I enjoyed it too. I think this is one of those movies that I will give a better rating for the initial theater experience of watching it, with a lower rating as time goes on.

But The Last Jedi was trash, and nearly ruined the entire saga. I have that as by far the worst one of all 9 movies due to the storytelling of it. It was so bad, that I dont think it was possible for The Rise of Skywalker to be a really good movie, unless they made it into a 3-4 hour movie to salvage this trilogy. So in that regard it was pretty good all things considering.

But what about that "we have to be inclusive with everything" scene with the two lesbians kissing at the end? hahahaha smh

Star Wars Episode IX: The Return of The Return of the Jedi

This entire sequel trilogy has left a bad taste in my mouth. While I did enjoy each film individually (yes, even TLJ), the most glaring flaw in the entire thing is just how unnecessary the entire thing was. While the prequels deserve their fair share of criticism, they at least added something to the original trilogy. With the sequel trilogy I feel like Disney hadn't quite thought up a confident way to tell their own unique story, so they threw one together and then added in the familiar faces to appeal to the fanbase.

And it largely worked. Episodes VII and IX are familiar enough to not piss off the older fans, but are kind of just empty shells of movies. While VIII gets duly mocked at times, at least it took risks and tried to do something different. But since Rise of Skywalker is familiar enough, it'll get a pass for things that The Last Jedi won't. Hate the forced love plot between Rose and Finn and that time spent on Casino planet? You should hate the sudden love connection between Kylo and Rey (and Poe and whoever the rando masked woman was) and the time spent on wherever the droid hacker thing was. Hated that Leia all of a sudden uses the force? Oh, she also has a light saber! Hated the forced comedy? Get used to it 'cause Disney owns everything now. What are these force powers we've never seen before? Too bad Luke hadn't learned the Lay on Hands, heal for 5x your character level so he could help Vader out at the end of RotJ.

Don't get me wrong, I was more than entertained during the film (and all of the films). I just think that time will judge the sequel trilogy very poorly. They'll call it "The Skywalker Saga", but the sequels don't really fit.

I hope to have more Star Wars in the future, I think there are some excellent stories to be told. But the series needs to jump to another point in time, related to none of the characters we've seen so far.

By doing this, Ben Solo is fullfilling what Anakin couldn't do and lead him to the dark side : Save the one he loves from dying.

Best movie of the trilogy.

I told my new girlfriend I was going to see the new Star Wars movie last night...She said she would love to see a movie what else is playing...I replied We're going to see the new Star Wars movie or I'm going to see the new Star Wars movie. She didnt find that as funny as I did...but she watched the movie lol.

it was bad but its not anywhere near prequel bad

I'll throw out an unpopular opinion: sequel trilogy is worse than (or at best just as bad as) prequel trilogy.

Prequel trilogy just suffers from absolute dog shit scripts from Lucas. At least the story is coherent and consistent between the films.

Sequel trilogy films are a jumbled mess of half baked ideas from different directors that never really comes together.

Sure the sequel trilogy looks and sounds better, but it's all stroking fanboy's nostalgia bones. The substance is very blah.

Tier 2 (Great film that I can keep rewatching): the Force Awakens, A New Hope, Rogue One
Tier 3 (Good film with some issues): Revenge of the Sith, the Last Jedi
Tier 4 (Fun Star Wars film): Rise of Skywalker, Return of the Jedi, Solo
Tier 5 (Duel of Fates puts you above the crap tier): Phantom Menace
Tier 6 (Remove the romance and just give me more Ewan McGregor): Attack of the Clones

In reference to the bolded sections in order:

• How are you watching these movies?  
• I don't remember Kerri Russel's character's name, but it was not a random character.  I recall reading months back that the character came from other sections of the cannon, but I don't know if it was comics, books, or what.
• That was the major problem for many, myself included, with TLJ.  No one was aware that Luke had trained Leia, and she was a Jedi.  Only after the massive backlash about the flying through space sequence was that brought to light.  What the movie makers needed to remember is that while some fans immerse themselves in everything Star Wars and no the story outside of the movies, the rest of us (like me) do not.  If it's not shown in the movie or any of its predecessors, don't expect me to know it already.  With that said, I thought they did a great job of remedying that error in The Rise of Skywalker.
  

All in all I found the movie enjoyable, and I had no idea that Ford was making an appearance, so I was pleasantly surprised by that.

I watched it last night. Not sure how I feel about it, yet. It’s hard to meet fan expectations when concluding a franchise like this. Avengers End Game got it right. This wasn’t as good.

It seems like the didn’t have a clear story and plan to tell the story like the original trilogy. Just kinda made it up as they went along. This movie felt like Thanksgiving left overs reheated in the microwave. They ripped off old plot lines and updated them slightly. I think the fans deserved better. Instead of Rise of Skywalker they could call it Return of Previous Plots or I am your (Grand)father.

Not as good as Avengers End Game. Not the disappointment of the final season of Game of Thrones.

Wife and I went and saw last night. Your right, and although done on purpose, it I felt I knew what was going to happen next. We liked the movie overall, but my biggest entertainment came from a kid who was probably 13-14 yrs old. There were only a few of us in the theater and the screen was black. He extended his arm and outstretched his hand towards the screen like he was trying to use the force to begin the movie. He was waiting on a friend also, so he extended to the entrance to the theater as if trying to use the force to make his friend walk through. 

It was a cool thing to witness tbh and totally admire the imagination of kids before they grow up and forget the magic themselves.
