(Newport, TN-AP) June 13, 2005 - Authorities charged 144 people at possibly the largest cockfight in the country, officials said.  Several SWAT teams, helicopters and dozens of state troopers participated in the raid Saturday near Newport, Tennessee on the sprawling Del Rio Cockfight Pit. They seized about $40,000 in cash.

The local district attorney says the operation is reputed to be the largest cockfight in the US. He says it was open and notorious, "you just can't stand back and let something operate like that in the community."


It was crazy.  They had a big arena that seated hundreds of people with concession stands and everything.

I’ve always hoped to see the Cocks take on the Beavers. Possibly the Shockers?
