The defender Sample blocked forces Boyd out 9 times out of 10, regardless of the bad angle by the other defender. Both had to happen for the TD.

I.mean darn Kendall.Lamm of the 9 and 3 Browns
Has more TDs than Sample
He had 7 catches on 7 targets, though. That's hype thread worthy in your book.
Don't worry, though. He still has the rest of this year and all of next year to reach that lofty "1 TD in 3 years in the league" plateau that your boy, Auden, is standing on.

Auden Tate isn’t playing WR1. Sample had a big opportunity when Uzomah went down and he’s down nothing with it.

Why do you ALWAYS bring Auden Tate up in defense of Drew Sample?
A 7th round WR4/5 is not held to the same standard as a 2nd round TE1.

Drew Sample had a good game. He caught the ball when targeted power forward for extra yards and had some nice blocks including one on the outside that sprung Boyd for a TD.
Again I say he does exactly what the offense asks him to do.

Right, but the Dolphins TE had a GREAT game. Let’s stop settling if we want to move forward.

Tate had a big opportunity last year when every WR not named Tyler Boyd went down in front of him and he did nothing with it, either. It supposedly wasn't his fault, though. But it is Sample's fault he hasn't really done anything with his, apparently.
Point being, I find it funny that a guy pimps a guy with 1 TD in 3 years and blames the QB's and coaches for his inability to find the end zone, but trashes another player in the same circumstances.

He did more than Sample has. 575 yds for a WR2 is a hell of a lot better than whatever Sample is on pace for as a TE1.
But anyway neither is very good. And it’s a weird defense of Sample like Wes said.

This is where you are making your mistake.
Drew Sample and Mike Gesicki are a different kind of TEs just like AJ Green and Tyler Boyd are a different kind of WRs.

Well Tyler Boyd is good and AJ is not so I agree if that’s the comparison...

Because a certain poster pimps Tate to ridiculous proportions and excuse makes for his lack of TD's, but then wants to selectively trash other players for not scoring TD's. The same people are throwing to and calling the plays for both.
You don't use draft round to evaluate professional players. If you do, you run into constant instances where some Day 3 pick doesn't completely embarrass themselves, so you overrate them or some 1st round pick is just an average starter, so he sucks. And Sample is only TE1 because of injury. By that logic, Tate is a WR2.

Under Zac's "scheme" the TE is not really a part of the passing game - they are way down on the route tree. That's why Eifert didn't blow up under ZT and neither did Uzomah. In this scheme the TE is inline and only goes out a small amount as a last chance outlet. If you're expecting a TE posting up Gronk style numbers then you need a different scheme on offense where the TE is not a blocker first.

Drew Sample has 1 target on a corner route and zero targets on seam routes this season.

575 for a WR2 is not better than 400 for a TE1 on most teams.
It's a weird defense, but it's weird to dump on a guy who caught every pass thrown to him, was 3rd on the team in receiving, and made some good blocks today.

Ofc nobody was expecting Gronk numbers, but the difference between Uzomah and Sample is pretty noticeable. Uzomah had 87 yds and a TD in less than 2 games. He was an actual threat in the passing game. Sample is nothing but a check down.

7 rec for 49 yds 0 TD. He’s a check down. It’s kind of sad people are so impressed with that stat line.

He was an underneath target not a checkdown. There is a difference.

Are you happy with our TE group? Would it be an area that needs upgrading in your opinion?
Let’s take the thread title, and Auden Tate, and all the other distractions people have spent pages arguing about out of it, and get down to the main point, is Drew Sample good enough to not be replaced?

I'm not saying it's impressive, just that it's not bash worthy.

Drew Sample is a TE-Y not an Hback. I am fine he runs sticks flares flats because that's what I expect him to run.
